Forty-Two Witnesses Sworn In Damage

The November term of City Court ad
journed for the term Saturday morning
at 11 o'clock. The jurors and witnesses
were excused Friday afternoon but the
Appearance Docket was taken up Sat
urday morning and consumed half a day.
This has been one of the busiest ses
sions of the court yet held in Tift
county. While the criminal docket did
not take up so much Jime, a great deal of
work was done, and the civil week made
up f8r the shortness of the criminal week,
going five full days and into the sixth.
The civil week was a remarkable one,
from tiie amount of business transacted,
and the heat with which some of the
cases were contested.
Perhaps the most noted case tried at
this session was that of Glenn Sumner
against T. E. Leach. Mr. Leach .drove
his car into a horse and buggy in which
Mr. Sumner was rldinr, killing the-hoty*
instantly. The accident occurred at the
intersection of the National Highway and
the Whiddou Mill and Irwinvilie road,
just south of Cydoneta.
In all, forty-two witnesses were sworn
and every inch of ground was botiy con
tested by both sides. . 5 ' *
A verdict in favor of the plaintiff for
$140 was returned.

Deputy Sheriff Conger, assisted by
Officer Hass, raided u still Saturday night
a branch back of Mr. Geo. Sea's farm
the southern part of the county. '
The moonshiners evidently heard the
officers coming and ran, trying to carry
their outfit, with them, but getting tan
gled up in the bushes the still had to
be abandoned.
The still was an old gasoline drum
and was about two-thirds full

a real run began.
No arrests were made as the '‘Shiners”
got too far a lead on the officers and
made good their escape in the darkness.

Well-Built Affair Located by Officers, But
Worm Had Been Removed.
Sheriff Shaw, Deputy Couger and Offi

east of Tifton Monday afternoon, the
still being located in the branch about
400 yards from the house occupied by
Ham Jordan ou the Judge Eve place, re
cently sold by Col. J. S. Rldgdill to Mr.
Thornhill.
There was a strong odor of "moon
shine” in the neighborhood about the
still, but no liquor was found. The of
ficers found 10 empty barrels, which
showed signs of having been used and
a large poplar still, bat the worm waa
not located. The barrels and still were
burned.
The premises were searched for liquor,
but none was found though the odor was
there. It is thought that If the raid
could have been kept secret, something
tangible might have been found.
