God alone is one!—Abraham the faith- \
ful knew it; Moses declared it amotst toe ;
of Sinai; Jesus pronounced
it; and the messenger of God, the sword >
of his vengeance tilled the world with;
that immutable truth.—Surely there isj
one God , immortal . omnipresent , must

The following simple remedy for
croup is S m tinned by the. expenem e
of John D. Goodman, M. 1). and, as
will be seen from the following ex
tract, strongly u‘commended by him.
The simplicity of the remedy and tie
fa; ility of its application, b<*q> ak for
it at least a trial, lie stats s, tlut ‘it
has never caused vomiting, vertigo,
or any distressing symptom in my ex
perieiicc,’ and that this accords with
the experience of two other eminent
physicians who had recommended its
use to him. — Charlottesville Advocate.

Whcnevei children are threatened

{Croup) 1 direct plaster covered
with dry Scotch snuff, varying in size
according to the age of the patient, to
be applied directly across the top ot
the thorax, and ret lined there till all
the symptoms disappear.—The re
inedy is found to be always effectual
when applied in tlie first and second
stages of the malady. This mode of
treatment was, from prejudice or
skepticism., neglected by me, and in
oue instance, in which, with very
considerable dilii ully, one of my
children was rescued by the ordinary
treatment. But on being urged to!
make trial of the snuff plast r, I de |
termiued to iu ike the experiment j
whenever opportunity prcscntecl. j
This was nut Jong wanting; and win n 1
called to a child laboring under all}
the symptoms of the early siage of
croup, such a plaster (made by greas
ing a piece of linen, and covering it !
well mi o S ot< h Sauff) was directed
to in- rppljed to the cheat. The e-1
Vent was lost happy;'the symptomsi
of tracheal irritation, and half croup-j
ing cough ceased shortly after, the;
child fell into a profound sleep with
gentle perspiration and by next morn
ing was from all distressing symp
toms*—The plaster was re-applied fori
a uiglit or two following, and then
discontinued. Since that time my
family have been saved from a great
deal of anxiety and alarm, to which
previously they were subject, as we
were obliged to keep Coke’s hive syr
up, tartar emetic, and all other arti
cles resorted to, constantly ready to
ur*et the attacks of croup, which were
very sudden and frequent in cold wet
seasons; Since then, we have found ■
nothing necessary but the snuff plas
ter. If a child is heard to breathe
hoarsely, or cough, with any thing of
th* dreaded ringing sound of croup,;
it is only necessary to apply the snuff
plaster, and we feel under no further
a xiety. Instead of being obliged to
wait h with .the. tlfild all the. rest of
the night, when once the snuff is ap
plied, we go to rest again, with a feel
ing of entire security, which we have
never hid the fast cause to regret.
