Globe And Hureka Hotels Last Sunday night at a late burglars entered the Globe and invaded the sleeping of the proprietor and guests. the room where Mr. T. II. Ualhoun, (tho proprietor), and his wife were sleeping, articles of apparal, a valu able gold watdi and feveral dollars in money were taken. From rooms occupied by guests, clothing and trunks were removed to the hall where they were rifled of their con tents. It is estimated that the money value in gold watches and other articles secured by the burg lars is about $100, while the cash secured will amount to less than $ 20 . On tile same night the Eureka Hotel was visited by burglars, (pre sumably the same gang that robbed the Globe Hotel), entered the room where Mr. S. P. Lasseter, the pro prietor, and his nephew, Preston Angely, were sleeping, blew out the lamp and removed articles of aparal to the hall, where they rilled them. A startling incident of which Mr. John Oliver of Philadelphia was the subject, is narrated by him as fol lows: I was in a most dreadful con dition. My skin was almost yellow, eyes sunken, tongue coated, pain continually in back and sides, no ap petite—gradually glowing weaker day by day. Three physicians had given me up. . Fortunately a friend advised trying “Electric Bitters,” and to my great joy and surprise, the first bottle made a decided im provement, I continued their use for three weeks, and am now well. I know they saved my life, and rob bed the grave of another victim.” No one should fail to try them. On ly 50 cents per bottle at the City Drug Store. 6 Hold Your Cattle. Large shipments of beef cattle have been made from this section to the far AYest recently, and others are following rapidly. If the cattle owners of South Georgia are wise, they will stop selling to AYestcrn agents unless handsomely paid for their property. War is now inevita ble, aud when it comes in earnest, beef will be worth double what it is now. There will be a heavy demand for every- article of food in ease of war, and the seller will be able to practically command his own prices for it. It would be wise for the South Georgia farmers to increase their herds, rather than decrease them at the low prices they have hitherto brought. Bucklen’s Arnica Salve. Gold continues to flow into the treasury despite the war which would seem to have the of frightening it away. Within past few weeks nearly’ $50,000,000 have been booked for shipment from Europe to this country. The United States treasury now contains more than $175,000,000. Suppose this country had adopted the 16 to 1 theory, what would have been the condition of our treasury, or our ability to borrow money in Europe in ease of *a wav emergency? The April statement of tiie treasury de partment shows that there lias been an increase in the money in circula tion within the last month of nearly $30,000,000. The above cold offer food for reflection. District Conference. The Methodist quarterly ence of the McRae district here at noon yesterday. Rev. J. M. Lovetto, of McRae, delivered opening sermon ut the church last night,. There was largo i-oncregallon present. A Fishing Excursion Down The Ocmulgee. A party of fifteen persons includ ing Presiding Elder E. II. McGeehee and Rev. Guyton Fisher, hoarded the excursion steamboat E. B. Lew is at her wharf at an early hour last Monday morning for a fishing trip down the Ocmulgee river. Tlic party was in high spirits and the run down the river was highly en joyed. Arriving at Blue Lake, twenty five miles distant from Abbeville, the party enjoyed rare sport in catching game fish, such as trout, bream and white perch, which abound in the waters of the lake. At the close of the day the party went ashore and under the 'large trees that line the river bank enjoy ed a royal fish supper. Around the camp fire the evening was spent in smoking and “yarn spinning” till a late hour, when “all hands and the cook” retired to their rude couches to woo such sound and restful sleep as can only be enjoyed around the camp fire. The first rays of Tues days sun found the camp m a state of bustle, some were gathering fuel to cook the morning meal, others were carrying water, while the ma jority were setting out trout lines or hurrying to favorite points to re sume the exciting diversion of fish ing with rod and line. The sport continued till the afternoon when the little steamer headed for home, arriving at her wharf at 4 p. m. With one accord the members of the party declare the trip throughout a delightful one. Remarkable Rescue. Mrs. Michael Curtain, Plainfield, Ill., gnikes the statement, that sue caught cold which settled on her lungs; she was treated for a month by her family physician, but grew worse. He told her she was a hope less victim of consumption and that no medicine could cure her. Her druggist suggested Dr. King s New Discovery for Consumption; she bought a bottle and to her delight found herself benefitted from first dose. She continued its use and after taking six bottles, found her self sound and well; now does her own housework-, and is as well as she everwas. Free tial bottles of this Great Dicovery at City Drug Store. Large bottles 50 cents and $ 1 . 00 . 6 A Nocturnal Visitor. The inmates of Mrs. G. A. Dean’s bonding house were aroused from their slumbers at a late hour Tues day night by screams in the room of two young ladies on the second floor of the house. A window of the room occupied by the young ladies opens onto the front veranda, A noise at the window aroused one of the inmates of the room, who ap proached the window when the in truder who had attempted to raise the sash fled. The whole household was aroused to the highest pitch of excitement and upon investigation tracks of a barefooted man were dis covered leading from the house to the front gate. The nocturnal visi tor whose object probably was rob bery, had gained entrance to the house from the front door and stealthily made ins way upstairs and through the hall to the verandah. There is no clew to the identity of the visitor. Hon. Allen D. Candler Speaks here Tomorrow. Hon. Allen I). Candler, candidate for governor of Georgia, will ad dress the citizens of Wilcox county at the Auditorium tomorrow. The Candler Club of Abbeville, number ing nearly one hundred, have per fected arrangements to give the next governor of Georgia a rousing wel come. A statement made by President Charles Betts of the National Lum ber Dealers’ Association, at Cleve land, O., the other day is of interest to the country at large, and of sig nigcance to the South, 11 was to the effect that the annual output of lumber m this country exceeds in value “all of the gold, silver, coal, iron and wheat.” The special sig nificance to the South is in the that nearly, if not quite, j of the standing forest of the United States is in the South. This section I therefore, will henceforth be in a po sition to do approximately of tiie lumber business of country. Banks Fail But we have Never Failed..... -T 0 S E L L Furniture, Stoves, Crockery.
