The defense the New Era puts up against the charges made against Gin House precinct in the recent primary is about the weakest thing that lias come under our observation lately. It begins “its" article head ed “still lucking” by making charges mmillSt n tile editor of the Chronicle— of assuming to be “chief cook anti bottle washer” of the county—in “the soup,” and the Chronicle los ing its ticket and etc. .Just here we will stall that, The Chkonic'i.k, bad no ticket. It espoused the cause of Mr. Howeii, as it considered that both tickets, so far as the court house was concerned, was for Ro chelle. It did not, however, espouse the cause of the ticket as a whole which was nominated by the “Ro chelle mass meeting," and there fore got in quite as many with “the count" as the New Era did, and no need for a kickon that line. As Abbeville, she took from all the can didates in the field, those who were the least opposed to her interest and supported them to the best of her ability, as she will always be 1‘ouud doing, when her interest is at stake. Abbeville never does anything by halves, this was evidenced by the votes she cast, for the candidates she supported. Did Rochelle get in all her “mass meeting” crowd? Why don’t the New Era right out and defend the made against “Gin House?” “It” bailies around and to ridicule the Chronicle for pul fishing the charges, instead of go ing before the proper tribunal and defending them. As the Chronicle has stated be fore, it “does not make the against Gin House but they are made” just the same, and sworn testimony to back it. The proper place to deny said charges is before the Executive Committee, to whom the complaint was made, and before whom they should be denied. The New Era says all agreed to the con solidation and believed the statement made by Mr. Livingston except the the editor of the Chronicle. Five signed the returns with prottst instead of three. Stick to the truth. The editor the Ciihomci.k has known Mr. Livingston much longer than the editor ot the New Era and knows him to lie just what the New Era claimed, a gentleman, and believed his •statement was honestly made, but what about the charges? Stick to the question. Will Mr. Livingston's statement give satis faction when there is sworn tes timony against it? Do the good peo ple, whom you profess to represent, justice and insist that they get a proper hearing and clear their skirts of the stigma that you (the New Era) is trying to make them shoulder, to further your own selfish purposes. The charges made reflect upon Gin House, this we stick to. and we stick to the fact that it should be cleared up. We know the good people of that precinct quite as well as the New Era. Another thing we know that there is a tribunal before whom a charge like the one made can be cleared up. Now who is doing the good people an injury, the Chron loi .k whose efforts are to clear the matter up or the New Era, whose efforts are directed towards conceal ing the facts? If these statements are not true eleai them up lie fore the Executive Committee or else a certain por tion of them will always be believed. What the New Era desires should be done: “is to let Gm House bear the brunt, if it accomplishes the purp oses Rochelle desires. ” See who is pulling the string don't you? If these charges are not true clear them up anti the cause of Mr. Bowen will be advanced and the good peo p],. () f Gin House vindicated. Oau't the New Era see the point? No. For the reason of the No. li.J hat and the No. 1* shoe worn lq - the editor it cannot see the point. If the editor of the New Era was as good at everything else as he is ••marking predictions” there would be a great vacuum when lie ‘ leaves this world. There was a large crowd in town trading last Saturday. Citation. GKOJK'TA—WUcox county.
