has been seriously sick for some weeks
but is now considerably improved.

Mrs. J. T. Jeter was called to Amer
icus Saturday morning on account of
the death of her brother, D. W. Borun,
which occurred there Friday afternoon.
Burial occurred at Americus Saturday
afternoon.

Frank Starr, who has been attend
ing the Massey Business college at
Columbus, was in the city last Friday,
en route to Hawkinsville, where he has
accepted a position as bookkeeper.

have arrived in the city and are mak
ing their home with Mr. and Mrs. W.
G. Fitzgerald.

Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Stephens, who
live in the southern part of Crisp, were
hera last Thursday on their way to
Rebecca to spend some days there as
guests of relatives.

Mrs. Fannie Pounds and Miss Nancy
Starr left Monday afterneon for Una
dilla to represent the local Methodist
church at the Missionary Conference
of the Cordele district being .held
there for the first half of the week.

Miss Eva McElhannon delighted her
seventh grade pupils with a picr‘ic at
Daphne last Saturday. Miss McElhan
non was accompanied by Miss Rustin,
and about thirty children attended the
picnic.

Mr. Rumble, assisted by Misses
Eakes and Woodward, entertained the
eighth grade of the high school and
‘their friends at a picnic Saturday at
;Brown’s mill. A splendid lunch was
prepared and the outing proved a most
‘ enjoyable one.

J. W. Feagle, of Valdosta, was in the
city several days last week. He is
president of the Feagle Furniture com
pany, and was here to assist the new
manager, Mr. Taylor, in taking over
the affairs of the company.

Mr. and Mrs. C. M. McKenzie, Miss
Inez Hyman and Mr. Russel Peeples,
Jr., spent last Thursday in Macon, mak
ing the trip by automobile. Mr. Mec-
Kenzie attended to business matters
there.

Route D, were visitors in the city Sat
urday, attending the elocution and or
atorical contest of the county schools
held at the court house.

will be represented at the Grand Com
mandery meeting at Rome, May 10th
and 11th, by Cecil Williams, Eminent
Commander, A.°C. Atkins, who is
Grand Junior Warden of the Grand
Commandery, and a number of others.

Mr. and Mrs. R. Boniske were called
to Waycross last Thursday on account
of the death of Mrs. Boniske’s broth
!er, Mr. M. Orovitz, which occurred
there on the previous night. Mr. Oro-}
vitz was formerly in busines at Una
dilla and was well known throughout
this section.

Mrs. Steve Little returned Thursday
from a visit to relatives at Columbus.
Friday afternoon Mrs. Little was call
ed to Abbeville on account of the ill
ness of her brother, W. B. Green, who
left during the latter part of the week
for New Mexico, where he hopes to
recuperate from his declining health.

W. C. Jacobs, a well known farm
er who lives on Route 6, was in the
city Saturday. Crops in his section,
says Mr. Jacobs, are in fair condition,
though the oat crop has been seriously
damaged by the prolonged drouth.
Other crops are as good as the average
for this season of the year, and per
haps better, he says.

Dr. C. 0. Gilbert, of Macon, were in
Cordele last Thursday en route to at
tend the Elks’ convention in Americus.
They were accompanied from Atlanta
by Hon. W. H. Dorris, who was return
ing from a trip to Charlotte N. C.,
wihere he went on legal business.

J. T. Summers, a progressive farm
er of Route D, attended to business in
the city Saturday. Mr. Summers
states that crops in his vicinity are in
good condition. Most of the farmers
have finished chopping cotton, and
crop conditions generally are well ad
vanced. Rain is what the farmers need
most of all, says Mr. Summers, and
would go a great way just at this time
in making the crops.

Prof. L. Rumble, who has taught in
the high school department of the Cor
dele public schools ior the past year,
will leave immediately following the
close of the schools for Lake Junalus
ka, N. C., where he will teach at the
camp school which has been held there
for three summers. Following the close
of the summer school, Prof. Rumble
will be connected with Emory college
for the year ensuing. Lake Junalus
ka is the assemblage grounds of the
Methodist of the south.

Miss Blanche Peavy, attractive and
accomplished daughter of Mrs. Laura
Peavy, of Pinehurst, and Mr. S. Lee
Ryals, of Cordele, were married last
Thursday afternoon in Macon, Dr. E.
C. Dargan, pastor of the First Baptist
church of that city, performed the cer
emony, in the presence of a number
of friends of the contracting parties,
who accompanied them by train from
Pinehurst to Macon.
The bride has: visited here on a num
ber of occasions, and has a large cir
cle of friends at Pinehurst, Cordele
and throughout this section, while the
groom is one of the most highly es
teemed business men of this city. He
is vice president of the Southern Real
ty Trust Company and is also connect
ed with the Ryals Motor company.
SENDING CATTLE TO TEXAS
RANGES FOR FATTENING
An entire train load of cattel, three
hundred and fifty head, pasesd through
Cordele today en route from Perry,
Fla., to Hitchcock, Tex. The cattle‘
were shipped by Perry Miller, of Per
ry and are being sent to Texas for the}
purpose ef fattening for beef. Several}
train loads of cattle came out of Flor
ida over the Georgia Southern andi
Florida railway last year, being ship
ped to Arkansas, Texas and other
western states. There will be heavy
shipments coming out of this state this
year.
