Ii the audience that attends the Milk

“lgamona" at Ford’'s Grand Opera

the opening last evening, something
very substantial is going to be done

was sustained throughout the per

“Ramona” is a story so well known

it at any length. To those whose mem

ATLANTA SUFFERS FROM
MOCONSHINE DISTILERY EPIDEMIC
_ Atlanta, -Sept. 30.—Discovery of a
!moonshine distillery in the heart of
Atlantg, turning out corn liquer with
in a block of the Terminal Station,
has convinced the police authorities
that they have merely scratched the
surface in arresting the negro black
smith who was operating the distil
lery in question.
He installed the distillery in the
basement of his blacksmith shop, ar
ranged the flue so that the smoke
would mingle with the smoke from;
his forge, and connected his pipes
with the city water supply and his
discharge went with a city sewer. ‘
A United States revenue officer whoi
descended into the basement through
a“trap door stepped into a caldron full
of boiling hot mashings and scalded
both of his feet. One thousand gal
lons of “beer” was seized, and the
distillery was taken out by the roots
and hauled to the Federal building in
an automoebile truck, to be used as
evidence in the blacksmith's trial.
On top of the discovery of this clev
erly concealed distillery, a county po
liceman, early yesierday morning, ran
down a traveling apparatus is now in
the hands of the county authorities, |
who prize it highly as a relic. !
For several weeks the police depart- '
ment, in co-operation with the county
police and the United States revenue!
ofiicers, have been engaged in war'i
on the purveyors of corn liquor, and |
have made it so hot for the mountain- |
eers hauling the same into the (-ityi
that those shrewd citizens have been |
obliged to exercise their ingenuity to;
the utmost. |
Paris now has a Chinese settlement. 1
The first families arrived a year ago,
and now one hotel shelters fifty-three
Chinese in five rooms. The men are
mostly engaged in making toys, which
the women and children sell in the
city.
