GRAVE DANGER OF INFANTILE
PARALYSIS IN MAIL ORDERS
Atianta, Sept. 30.—The danger of
transmitting the germs of infantile
paralysis in packages purchased from
mail order houses in cities where ba
bies are dying by the thousands from
this strange and terrible plague is be
ing called to the attenticn to the peo
ple by heaith authorities and news
papers over the South. It is peinted
out that packages wrapped by chil
dren coming from the slums of New
York are very likely io contain the
germs of the dread disease, and some
cities have gone so far as to enforce
quarantines against this particular
form of transmission. Thus far the
cities of the south have been compar
atively free from infantile paralysis,
but there is no parent who does not
shudder to contemplate the results of
a spread of the disease to this section.

CHURCH i AUGUSTA
Augusta, Sept. 30.—Friday after
noon the corner stone of the new St
Paul’s Episcopal church was laid. The
new building is being erected on the
site of the one destroyed by fire. St
Taul's was established here a short
time after the city. of Augusta was

constructed of logs for some time,
and after the Revolutionary War the
church was built upen the site of the
fort which the colenists had built on
the banks cf the Savannah to protect
themselves from the Indians, and
which they used during the stirring
Revolutionary days as a protection
against the British.
§t. Pauls Churchyvard contains the
graves of many of Augusta’s best

174 TRESSPASSERS KILLED iN
A YEAR BY THE SCUTHERN
Atlanta, Sept. 29.—Death overtook
174 persons while walking on .tracks,
swinging traing, or ctherwise trespass
inz on the property of the Southern
Railway during the year ended June
30th.
Despite all warnings of its danger,
the practice of trespassing on rail
road property seems on the increase.
For the three previous years the
pumber of trespassers killed on the
Southern was as follows: 1813, 155;
1614, 126; 1915, 146; making with
1916 a total of 601 hves sacrificed to
carelessness.
Statistics shew that the great ma.
jority of railroad trespassers killed
are useful citizens. Wage earners,
using the tracks while walking to and
from their work, furnish a garge pro
sortion while fully a third are S(-hooll
boys, killed while “hopping” trains.
