The moth of the peach tree borer
‘deposits eggs on the trees from about
the middle of July until frost, the
greater number 0f eggs being laid
during the months of late July, August
and early Sepember, These eggs hatch
and develop into little grubs that work
under the bark of the peach tree.
Worming of peach trees may be done
any time after frost. 'Where dirt has
been banked up about the trunks, it
should be raked away and a close in
specticn given the tree for borers ;
and where found, these insects should
be cut out with a sharp knife, care be
ing taken not to girdle the tree. Again
in the spring it is well to go over the
trees and search for borers, getting
those that may have escaped the first
hunt,
DON'T BURN WHAT
CAN BE TURNED UNDER
The College of Agriculture urges
farmers not to burn any vegetable
matter that can be plowed under. In
their effort to kill the boll weevil in
its winter quarters, farmers must not
make the mistake of burning off of the
field, stalks, vines, grass, etc., before
plowing. Of all needs of Georgia
soils, humus is the greatest, Vege
table matter turned under will pro
vide for it. If it is turned under four
inches or more as all land should be
turned, then the weevil in the stalks
or other hiding places will be buried
and killed.
Burn off and clean up only those
places where the plow can not reach.
Bury the vegetation as deeply as pos
sible with a drag chain attached to
the plow,
PUREBRED CATTLE -TO
SUPPLY CREAMERY
The creamery recently established
at Moultrie, Georgia, is being launch
ed on a high plane.- Much of the
milk is being provided by pure dairy
cows, raore than 300 such having been
purchased by farmers who are sup
plying the crcamepy. These farmers
are still adding to their herds of
purebreds. The creamery piomises
to be one of the most successful in the
counfry as a result. The county agent
and dairy specialist frem the College
of Agriculture have been of special
gservice in the undertaking.
