iTo Put on Campaign for Three Main
InstHutions of the Denomination.
Atlanta, Jan. 16.—The Georgia Bap
tist Convention has decided to put on
a state-wide campaign to raise half a
rhillion dollars for the three main Bap
tist institutions of the state, which
are Mercer University at Macen, Bes
sie Tift College at Forsyth and the
i(;em‘gi:x Baptist Hospital in Atlanta.
A committee of five prominent Bap
tists has been appointed to have gen
eral charge of the campaign, as fol
lows: Rev.’F. C.! Connell, Atlanta;
Rev. John D. Mell, Athens; DresLl. G.
Hardman, Commerce; P. J. Nichols,
Griffin; Judge E. C. Collins, Reidsville.
C. J. Hood, of Commerce, a pormi
nent banker and leader sin the Bap
tist denomination, has accepted the
dire(:torshig of the campaign and
the ways and means committee of five
will turn over ‘gl plans to him for ex
ecution. s
The exact sum of money to be
asked for is $415,000, with the ohject
of freeing Georgia’s. Baptist institu
tions from debt, and it has been
agreed by -the convention that no
money collected will be paid out un
{il the full amount is secured.
“The task that is on us requires
the largest giving in the history of
(Georgia Baptists,” declared Rev. B.
J. W. Graham in the Christian In
jex. the official organ of the Georgia
Baptist Convention. “If they start
out by trying to satisfy their consci
onces by giving $lOO where they
yught to give $l.OOO, and by giving
11.000 where they ought to give $lO,-
000, they will fail.”
