She was born May 3, 1969, to Larry Hammond and Linda Sos- bee. Melinda loved spending time with her kids, and all eight of her grandchildren. Week of January 22-28 Michael Travis Palmer NICHOLSON — Michael Travis Palmer, 49, Nicholson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at his res idence. Mr. Palmer was bom in Ath ens to Helen Baker Palmer of Nicholson and the late Clayton Lamar Palmer. Travis graduated from Jack- son County High School in 1991. He worked for Southeast Toyota Distribution, but his true passion was farming and rais ing cows. Mr. Palmer enjoyed riding on his Gator around the farm and checking on his cows. He attended and was a member of River of Life Worship Cen ter where he met the love of his life. Shannon, the daughter of Linda Rhodes of Nicholson and the late Rev. Howard Rhodes. In addition to his wife of 26 years and his mother, Mr. Palmer is survived by his daughter, Morgan Palmer (fiance, Blake Mc- Clung), Nicholson; sister, Melissa Palmer, Nicholson; brother, Ja son Palmer (Chanda), Commerce; nieces, Gailey Martin (Nick), Royston, and Grace Palmer, Commerce; and special cousin, Beth any Meacacke, Nicholson. Week of January 22-28 Robert Wayne “Bob” Pendleton COMER — Robert Wayne “Bob" Pendleton, 91, Comer, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 8, 2023. Born in New Middletown, Indiana, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Bernice Pendleton. He was a graduate of New Mid dletown High School before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1952. After his time in the service, he moved to Madison Coun ty, where he met the love of his life, Allene Sorrells Pendleton. Pendleton was an employee of Georgia Power and spent sev eral years living in Cornelia, where he worked as an appli ance repairman. After moving back to Comer and retiring from Georgia Pow er, Bob spent most of his time on the cattle farm. He loved spending time in the hayfield on the tractors, and later in life, watching his relatives on the tractors, as he was now the offi cial gate opener/closer. He was a big follower of NASCAR and he and Allene would travel to watch the live action. He was also a fan of the UGA Bull dogs and the Atlanta Braves. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Allene Sorrells Pendleton. Mr. Pendleton is survived by his daughter, Robin Pendleton; brothers, William and Linda Pendleton and Ron and Patty Pend leton; sister, Linda and John Harrover; and nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at The Hampton House Personal Care Home and St. Mary’s Hospice for the wonderful care they provided. Week of January 22-28 Angela Ruth Martin Pruitt ROYSTON — Angela Ruth Martin Pruitt, 59, Royston, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2022, at her home after an extended battle with cancer. Ms. Pruitt was bom on December 12, 1963, in Royston, daughter of the late Larry Martin and the late Fannie Ruth Campbell Martin. She was owner and operator of Quality Tank Company, member of the Ga. Onsite Wastewater Association and was of the Christian faith. She was a beloved mother devoted to her family and grand children, and they were her world. She loved to help others in their time of need. She also enjoyed crafting in her spare time. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Larry Onnie Martin and William Dean Martin. Survivors include her husband, Tim F. Jordan; daughter, Cas sandra Pruitt, Royston; step-son, Devin Jordan, Winder; grand children, Quenton Pruitt, Allison Jordan and Karlie Jordan; sister, Darlene Phillips, Danielsville, GA; and fur babies, Diesel, Pete and Smokey. Week of January 22-28 John Taylor Rylee MAYS VILLE — John Taylor Rylee, 41, Maysville, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023, from an unexpected illness. John was bom on February 19, 1981, to Sharon Taylor and John ny Rylee in Athens. John grew up in Maysville, and attended Banks County High School after which he worked in various trades, eventually becoming a foreman for Shumate Mechanical. He later worked at Cycle World in Athens, and in more recent years, John was a cattle farmer on his family farm in Banks County, as well as a landscaper and just an all-purpose handyman. John was an active member of the Banks County community, serving on the Banks County Parks and Recreation Board and coaching numerous young men and women in baseball and soft- ball. He was also a beloved member of the Jefferson Ambush Base ball Organization family and coaching staff. John is survived and missed by his son, John Michael; his sister, Lisa; his mother, Sharon Taylor Highsmith (Sammy); his father, Johnny Rylee (Vicki Wall); and his loving partner, Felicia Baker. He is also forever cherished and remembered by his first cousins, who were much more like siblings, Casey Westbrooks (Lori), Lau ra Westbrooks and Melanie Halski (Lew). John will be missed by so many. Those who wish to honor him may contribute to the John Rylee Memorial fund through his sis ter Lisa Rylee. Funds will be used not only for John’s son but for scholarships for baseball and softball players from Banks County High School each year. Even though John was taken too soon, he lived an extraordinary and large life surrounded by those who loved him. Bom in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Sam Campbell and Madie Long Campbell. Mrs. Smith enjoyed read ing, doing word searches and most importantly, she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Published by MainStreet Newspapers, Inc. Week of January 22-28 Shirley Ann Walden Smith NICHOLSON — Shirley Ann Walden Smith, Nicholson, went to glory early Thursday morning, January 19, 2023. Shirley was bom on October 5, 1943. She has one brother, Thomas Walden; and two sisters, Bobbie Banks and Sara Mabry. Shirley married Ray Smith on September 29. 1958. They were happily married until Ray passed in 2007. They had three children, two boys, Tony and Todd (who preceded their mother in death); one daughter, Tracy Smith Wilson (Daniel), Apple Valley commu nity; three grandchildren, Benjamin (Katie), Sam John and Rachel (Dakota); a new great-grandchild, Daniel Malcom, whom she al ready adored, and another great-grandchild expected in the spring. Shirley was the director of the Jackson County Senior Center for over 25 years, with a total of 40 years of service there. She loved her seniors, and this was a great ministry for her. Shirley was a member of River of Life Church in Nicholson. She loved her family, her church and her community. She was well known for her wonderful cooking. She fixed big Sunday dinners every week and yearly birthday cakes for her family. She often baked cakes for friends and neighbors. Shirley will be greatly missed, but her family rejoices that she is home with her Lord. The family would like to ask that everyone who attends the funeral wear bright cheerful colors in honor and memory of Shirley. Mr. Whiteaker was a truck driver for over 30 years and a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Anuy. Week of January 22-28 “Mildred” Jeraldine Perry Wilson The family of "Mildred” Jeraldine Perry Wilson announces her move from this earthly life to eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. After an extended battle with dementia, she is finally whole again. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2023. Mildred was bom July 25, 1930, in the Apple Valley communi ty. She was the daughter of Arthur Watson Perry and Lula Pinion Perry. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Ronald Wilson, and his wife Marlene; grandsons, Israel Wilson, and his wife, Lisa, Larry Venable, and Joshua Wehunt. Mildred is also sur vived by her great-granddaughter, Harley Wilson Roberts; five great-great-grandchildren, LenaKae and Melanie Kesler, Rosalee Hamilton, Logan and Mera Roberts; and several nephews and nieces. Mildred was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband of 69 years, Rev. Vernon Wilson; her son, Rickey Wilson; her daugh ter, Roberta Venable; her brothers, A.W. Perry Jr., Harry Perry, Bobby Perry and Billy Perry; her sisters, Lena Landis and Louise Long; and her great-granddaughter, Christina Danielle Hamilton. Mildred's accomplishments are many, but she would tell you her family and her personal relationship with Jesus Christ are the most important accomplishments of her life. She served faithfully as a pastor’s wife along with numerous other ministerial offices of her beloved husband during their 69 years of marriage. Mildred was a faithful member of the River of Life Congregational Holiness Church of Nicholson, for 47 years. Whatever her hands found to do, she did with joy.
