WEDNESDAY, MARCH 29, 2023 THE JACKSON HERALD PAGE 7A Jefferson PD Gas station employee steals $3,300 worth of lottery tickets The Jefferson Police Department responded to a report of a theft at a Dry Pond Rd. gas station on March 18. A gas station employee reportedly stole lottery tickets. A day manager had come in to restock the lottery and found there were several books missing. She and the store manager counted the books and found there were 11 books of $20 lottery tickets missing, valued at $300 a book, for a total value of $3,300. When they reviewed the store’s video footage, it showed a kitchen employee who was off work com ing into the office. She is seen exiting the office with her hoodie ap pearing to be weighted down in the front. As she exits the store, she is seen looking back to see if anyone is following her. The manager called the employee to give her a chance to give them back, but the employee said she already scratched the tickets. The manager also contacted the lottery commis sion and gas station corporate office. OTHER INCIDENTS Other recent incidents reported to the JPD include: • fraud-financial identity on Canter Way where a woman reported that her social security number and address were used to open an AT&T account and a Regions Bank account. The person had deposited two fraudulent checks and then spent all the money before the checks could bounce; one check was for $2,947.44 and one check was for $2,445.44. The woman was also billed for two phones, a tablet and an Apple Watch on the AT&T account. • theft by taking on S. Holland Dr. where a man reported that his wallet was stolen from his locker. • driving while unlicensed on Hwy. 129 N and 1-85 where a driver in a two-vehicle wreck was arrested. • miscellaneous report on Arthur Ave. where a woman reported that she was texted with a scam say ing her checking account was being debited for Geek Squad Service. • juvenile in roadway on Peach Hill Dr. where a two-year-old juvenile was reportedly seen in a one- piece outfit with no shoes and was covered in mud. He was OK. • dispute on Hwy. 129 N where someone reported that two men had a verbal dispute, with one man lift ing his shirt and revealing a pistol. • information on Hwy. 129 where a woman report ed that she had been receiving threatening text mes sages from an unknown number. • miscellaneous report on Jasmine Dr. where a girl friend and boyfriend had a verbal dispute. • information on Fairfield Dr. where an officer responded to a possible domestic dispute between a father and daughter. • suspicious person on Washington St. where someone was seen taking pictures of vehicles. • miscellaneous report on Hog Mountain Rd. where a boyfriend and girlfriend had a verbal argu ment about a vehicle. • agency assist on Washington St. and Storey Ln. where a JPD officer helped the Jackson County Sher iff’s Office with a pursuit in the city. • information report on Burnt Oak Ct. where a woman reported that her security system was hacked/ disconnected. • miscellaneous report on Concord Rd. where a woman and her neighbor had a verbal dispute and the woman broke dishes in the apartment hallway. • deposit account fraud-felony and identity theft on Washington St. where a man reported that someone had deposited fraudulent checks into his checking account and then depleted all the funds from the ac count. • information on Hwy. 129 at the 1-85 overpass where a broken down tractor trailer was seen in the middle of the roadway. • domestic dispute on Adventure Trail where a hus band and wife had a verbal argument. • wanted person located on Gordon St. where a man was served with a warrant out of Jackson Coun ty for probation violation. • miscellaneous report on Magnolia St. where a man reported that someone refused to return the trail er he loaned to them. • criminal damage to property-first degree on Hawkins Creek Ln. where a man damaged his wife’s car during an argument by punching it and throwing a trash can against it. • terroristic threats and acts on Paxton Ln. where a man reported that the mother of one of his children threatened to shoot him and his one-year-old daugh ter via text. • criminal trespass on Davis St. where a man re ported that there was a light on inside a mobile home that was supposed to be vacant. A recently evicted person had entered the mobile home after being told he wasn't allowed back. • wanted person located on Mahaffey St. where a woman was served with a warrant out of Barrow County. • burglary-first degree on Heritage Ave. where a woman reported that her prescription medication and Blu-Ray player were stolen. • identity theft on Plantation Dr. where a couple reported that their daughter’s social security number had been used to file a tax return. • information on Silver Bell Rd. where a woman reported an internet scam. Her daughter had been ap plying for jobs online, including on a website called “Jobs2careers,” and was contacted by a man via an app called Telegram. He sent an email with a check for $1,000 that her daughter was to take to the bank and cash for him. She deposited the check into her bank account and withdrew the money, then put it into her Cashapp account and sent it to him through bitcoin. • driving while unlicensed on Hwy. 129 north bound and Holders Siding Rd. where a man was ar rested at a traffic stop. • miscellaneous report on Lynn Ave. where a brother and sister had a verbal dispute. • information on Hwy. 129 where a man reported damage to his truck from a tow truck lift. • information on Hwy. 129 N where a man report ed that his trailer tag was missing, but he was unsure if it was stolen or had fallen off. • information on River Mist Cir. where a woman came into the police department to report custody and mail issues. • an accident on Hwy. 11 and Old Pendergrass Rd. where one vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle. One driver reported an injury. • an accident on Damon Gause Bypass and Winder Hwy. where three vehicles collided. One driver was transported to Piedmont Athens Regional for injuries. • an accident on 1-85 northbound where one vehi cle rear-ended another vehicle. Two people reported injuries but did not need transport to the hospital. JCSO continued from 6A overdose on Blackthome Rd. where an officer assisted a medical unit with transporting a man to the hospital. The man had been found unresponsive in front of a camper door, but officers located nothing inside the camper that would result in an overdose. • lost/found item on Hwy. 441 S where EMS reported that a JCSO badge was given over to them while returning from a transport in Athens. • information on Steeplechase Rd. where a woman reported that someone was inside a camper on her property and she wanted them removed. The person voluntarily left the property on foot prior to the officer’s departure. • agency assist on Broad St. where an officer helped the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office by notifying a victim about an in mate being released from jail. • driving while license suspend ed/revoked and taillight violation on Hwy. 441 S and Stapler Dr. where a man was arrested at a traf fic stop. • dispute (local) on Winding Vine Ln. where a husband and wife had a verbal argument. • accident with a deer/animal on Waterworks Rd. where a woman shuck a dog with her vehicle. The dog was deceased and there was slight damage to the front of the vehicle. • agency assist on Cabin Creek Rd. where an officer helped a medical unit with a residential fire. The fire was out and one juvenile was injured with bums on her left hand. The juvenile was transported to Grady Hospital. • information on Hwy. 441 where a vehicle was seen that be longed to a person reported miss ing by the Suwanee Police De partment. At a traffic stop, it was determined the vehicle belonged to the wife who was driving and trying to look for her husband. The missing husband has an identical vehicle with a slightly different tag number and damage from recent vandalism. • civil matter (local) on Berea Rd. where a man told to move out of the property by that night and wanted to know what he could do. NORTH JACKSON • dispute (local) on Valentine Industrial Pkwy. Ext. where a fired employee had refused to leave. • information on Wayne Poul try Rd. where a women wished to follow up on an alleged sexual assault incident that had occurred in February. • extortion on Main St. where a Maryland detective was investigat ing a case and requested assistance with locating the offender who may reside in Jackson County. An officer contacted two suspects, both denying any knowledge of the crime. • possession of less than an ounce of marijuana; possession of prohibited drug-related ob jects; possession, manufacture, distribution, or sale of THC oil; and taillight violation on Stockton Farm Rd. where a man was cited at a traffic stop. • civil matter (local) on Oak Crest Ln. where there was a dis pute over keys to a storage build ing. • juvenile issue on Holly Springs Rd. where a juvenile left his residence after an argument with his mother. SOUTH JACKSON • dispute (local) on Savage Rd. where a woman reported that she and her husband had an argument about a safe containing collect ibles, which he was trying to re move from the home. • information on Winford Smith Rd. where it was reported that a man was claiming to be with the Water Quality Associa tion and was soliciting business. • theft by receiving stolen prop erty and warrant service on Jeffer son Rd. where a man was arrest ed with a warrant out of Putnam County after reportedly stealing a skid steer out of Barrow County. • theft by taking on Lester Rd. where a man reported that his rented dump trailer was missing with a value of $14,000. • driving under the influ ence-multiple substances (less safe) and failure to maintain lane on Hwy. 330 and Shackleford Rd. where a woman was arrested after her vehicle hydroplaned and ran off the road into some trees. • theft by taking on Roque- more Rd. where a man reported that two women had taken his phone and a bag containing sev eral items. WEST JACKSON • agency assist on Hwy. 53 at Ednaville Rd. where a FedEx driver was reportedly transported to a hospital following a traffic accident. • thefts on Hickory Bluff and Hwy. 124 where a dolly was re ported stolen from wreckers at both locations. • theft on Brighton Park Cir cle where a woman reported her purse stolen. She said she believed someone entered her home through an unlocked door and took the purse containing her identification, credit cards, social security card and car fob. • suspicious activity on Coo per Bridge Rd. where a woman said her neighbor nearly struck her mailbox while backing up his vehicle. She said she believed the vehicle’s occupants were in toxicated, saying they staggered to the residence after exiting the truck. • suspicious activity on Bec- cas Dr. where a man said he saw another man inside his residence with his girlfriend, adding that he suspects his girlfriend is cheating on him. The man asked a deputy to check the residence to make sure another male wasn’t inside the home. The deputy spoke with the man’s girlfriend, who said she wasn’t cheating on him and the only other person inside the home was the man’s niece. • theft and identity fraud on Robert Dr. where a woman re portedly sent someone she met through Facebook $15,000 worth of gift cards after being promised $1.5 million and oth er expensive items, including a house. The person, who identi fied themselves as a 51 -year Iowa grandmother who’d won $343.9 million in Powerball, said the gift cards would pay for the taxes on the money and home. The woman said she sent the $15,000 in gift cards over the span of a month. She reportedly received a $15,000 check that bounced.
