JHS FBLA receives Gold Chapter designation The Jefferson High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter ended its compet itive season on a high note at the State Leadership Con ference in Atlanta earlier this month, winning multi ple awards and recognition. The organization received FBLA Gold Chapter Rec ognition — a first in JHS school history. Additionally. JHS FBLA sponsor Christy Drew was named Region 15 Advis er of the Year and Lanier Ashley was named among the Who’s Who in Georgia FBLA for Region 15. Kinsey Wilder and David Heard have their work published in the “Resilience — 2022 Poetry Collec tion.” Photos submitted Abigail Rose’s work is published in the “2022 Rising Stars Collection.” JHS students become published authors Jefferson High School students David Heard, Kinsey Wilder and Abigail Rose are creative writers whose poetry was recently published. Original writings from Heard and Wilder are fea tured in “Resilience — 2022 Poetry Collection,” published by the American Library of Poetry. Rose’s original work is printed in “2022 Rising Stars Collec tion,” published by Appel- ley Publishing. Their creations were en tered into a student poetry contest last year that were judged by people with backgrounds in English, literature, journalism and child education. FFA proficiency winners heading to state competition Jefferson High School students Wells Green and Emma Storey earned region titles for their FFA profi ciency applications. Storey succeeded in the area of veterinary science for her work at Shannon Veterinary Services in Jef ferson. Green succeeded in the area of wildlife man agement and production for his work with nuisance hog hunting near kaolin mines and farmland in central Georgia. JACKSON TRAIL STUDENTS COMPETE IN FORESTRY EVENT The Jackson Trail Christian School FFA Forestry team recently competed in the State Junior Forestry Championship Career Development Event held in Covington. There were 12 teams representing the six areas across the state. The JTCS team placed 5th, competing against both middle and high school teams. Daniel Jung placed ninth in the individual competition against 48 indi viduals. VISITING ANGELS MAKES EQUIPMENT DONATION TO EMPOWER CENTER Visiting Angels in Hoschton recently donated 25 blood pressure cuffs and stethoscopes to the Empower Center. The group was able to donate 25 sets to the students in the medical pathway. These will be given to stu dents enrolled in the medical assistant and nurse aide program to keep for their own personal/professional use. This piece of equipment is instru mental in the day to day operations of an assistant/aide. Students who qualified include Caleb PUBLIC NOTICE SPLOST 6 Citizen Oversight Committee On April 6, 2023, the Water and Sewerage Oversight Committee heard a presentation from the City of Maysville regarding proposed projects to be funded by SPLOST 6. The Committee determined: “The Replacement of Two (2) Aerators at Wastewater Treatment project is a project that complies with the project list the City of Maysville included on the SPLOST ballot.” The Committee also recommended that the project move forward.
