In the course, Pethel learned about the aspects of DAR and what it means to be a daughter. Pethel is shown (right) with Georgia State Regent Betty Harrah. Pethel is a member of the James Pittman DAR Chapter, Com merce. The chapter invites women that have an ancestor that served in the American Revolution to consider joining their chapter. The chapter meets six times annually. A day trip is planned on April 19 to visit Meadow Gardens, the home of George Walton located in Augusta. JCCO renames scholarship to honor the Rev. Bailey Jackson County Commu nity Outreach (JCCO) has decided to rename its Tech College Industrial Schol arship to the “B.H. Bailey Tech College Industrial Scholarship.” The scholarship was re named to honor the Rev. Bobby H. Bailey, former pastor of Flat Creek Baptist Church in Commerce. He served as the JCCO treasur er from the board’s creation in January 1998 until his re tirement in February 2021. The Rev. Bailey and Pres ident Jim Scott are mem bers of the original found ing board of directors. The Tech College Scholarship is the organization’s $2,000 premier JCCO scholarship award. “(The) Rev. The team, coached by volunteer Wayne Dills, competed in a match which included nearly 50 youth from across the state. The .22 Rifle team learns to shoot at metal silhouettes of animals spaced out over a 50-yard course. Participants shoot from a standing posi tion and have 40 shots, 10 for each animal silhouette. Jackson County had 11 participants at the match: juniors (7th & 8th grade) Drake Hill and Rylee Reyn olds; and seniors (9-12th grade) Ellie Groves, Skylar Byrum. Abbigail Collins, Sophia Satterfield. Matthew Justus, Lela Kruger. Karlie Fergueson, Wesley Whit tington and Ally Saigeon. Junior Drake Hill placed first in the junior relay with a score of 31 out of 40 while senior Abbigail Collins placed first in the senior re lay with a score of 27 out of 40. Jefferson library Summer Reading Program kicks off May 25 Jefferson Public Library’s Summer Reading Program will kick off on May 25 with a balloon artist, games and a craft. Participants can visit between 3:30- 5:30 p.m. for the event and to get regis tered for the Summer Reading Program. Children of all ages will get a prize for reading and will be entered for a grand prize drawing. Upcoming programs include: •The first week of May is Children’s Book Week. JPL is celebrating with a Story Stroll at the Jefferson City Park. Enjoy a stroll and a story as you make your way to different stops throughout the park. This is a fun activity that combines literacy, exercise, and nature for the en tire family, library leaders said. Children’s Librar ian Brittney Warren wants everyone to know “there are many interesting activities being planned, and there will be a calendar of events ready soon.” The theme is “All To gether Now” and there will be special programs through out the summer.
