WEDNESDAY, MAY 3, 2023 THE JACKSON HERALD PAGE 11A Obituaries Mary “ Linda” Hewell JEFFERSON — Mary “ Finda” Hewell, 86, Jef ferson, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. Mrs.Hewell was bom in Atlanta, to the late Charles and Elizabeth Winn Swick. Survivors include her sons, Joe Hewell and his wife Teresa, Jefferson, and Bill Hewell, Cher ry Fog; grandchildren, Jason Hewell and wife Stacey, and Eric Hewell and wife Ashlin, all of Jefferson, and Jared Hewell, Euharlee; and great-grandchildren, Madi son Hewell, Emersyn Hewell, Coleson Hewell and Kinsley Hewell. Linda led a distinguished career in the addiction/ recovery field and was prominent with SEC AD. She was the recipient of many awards including the 2011 Bernard Carter Humanitarian Award, and the status of lifetime Counselor Emeritus. Linda had a long and successful career with Peachford of Atlanta and Laurelwood of Gainesville, where her dedication and work in recovery changed the lives of many people. Week of April 30-May 6 George Franklin Kesler George Franklin Kesler, 75, died peacefully while surrounded by his immediate family on Sat urday, February 25, 2023 at Northside Gwinnett Hospital in Lawrenceville. George was bom in Jefferson. He was the son of the late Oris Massey Kesler and George Theron Kesler. George was a graduate of Young Harris Col lege and the University of Georgia, where he received a Bachelor’s of Business Adminis tration from the Terry College of Business. George was a member of the SAE fraternity, and he served as his fraternity’s Chaplain while attend ing UGA. George had a rewarding career spanning 34 years with Georgia Power - Southern Company includ ing various assignments in accounting and custom er service. He and his family experienced many moves throughout the state of Georgia. George greatly valued the friendships he developed over his career, and greatly appreciated the support from many of his co-workers. George lived his life of deep faith in a quiet and dedicated manner. Living and leading by example through his treatment of all people, and with much gratitude to his many church friends and additional lifelong friends. His dry sense of humor was also enjoyed by his friends and family. George was a man of true character; his compassion and humble manner enriched the lives of all who knew him. He and Ladson were founding charter members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Snellville, where George served as an Elder. In more recent years George has served as Elder at Good Shep herd Presbyterian Church in Lilbum, where he was Clerk of Session over many years. His commitment to his church, providing transportation to cancer patients in need of treatments, working with Hab itat for Humanity, and especially his dedication of service to Thomwell Children’s Home in Clinton, S.C., brought much joy and meaning to his life. George met the love of his life, Ladson Harvin Kesler, at Young Harris College. They would have soon celebrated 52 years of life together. George and Ladson have continued to enjoy special friend ships from their college years at Young Harris. In his retirement years, George especially took pleasure in reading, his many outside projects, building and creating woodwork, and pulling for his Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. He and Ladson treasured their summers in South Carolina at Lake Keowee with family, friends and dear neighbors. Over many summers, George and Ladson shared memorable vacations, together with their extended family, on the South Carolina coast. They were also fortunate to experience travel throughout many places in Germany with Ladson’s sister, and also in Italy. In the States, they enjoyed numerous National Parks. bove all, George was a devoted family man. He often said that his greatest role in life was to be Ladson’s husband, and father to Franklin and Lei- ann. George is survived by his wife, Ladson, Grayson; son, Franklin Gordon Kesler (Lisa), Atlanta; daughter, Leila Ann “Leiann” Kesler Spence (Ste phen), Huntington, West Virginia; brother, Theron Massey Kesler, Jefferson; sisters-in-law, Janice Kesler and Lynda Kesler, both of Jefferson, Leila Klessmann, Bielefeld, Germany, and Maria Har vin, Columbia, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Stewart Ingram Harvin in, Columbia, South Caro lina; and his many well-loved nieces and nephews. Week of April 30-May 6 Emily Rebecca McClellan Emily Rebecca McClellan passed away Friday, April 28, 2023 at Park Place Nursing Facility in Monroe. Becky was bom on March 1, 1935 in Wil kes County, the fifth of eight children to the late Abner Lamar and Thel ma Turner Lamar She married Jack McClellan in 1951 and moved to Colbert, where they made their home until Jack’s death in 2016. Becky was a homemaker and seam stress. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Colbert Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she is pre ceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Mr. Moon was bom on December 16, 1955 in Gwinnett County, the son of the late Albert Moon and the late Louise Moon. In addition to Steve’s parents, he is predeceased by his siblings, Ribbie Moon, Danny Moon, Judy Ward and Barry Moon. Steve was owner/ operator of a construction company. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Murphy Moon, Pendergrass; their son, Wesley B. Moon, Pendergrass; his sister, Shirley Moon Casey; brother, Alan Moon, both of Monroe; brothers-in-law, Ellis Murphy, A.J. Murphy, Ted Murphy (Nancy) and Jimmy Murphy (Debra); sis ter-in-law, Frances Murphy Brooks (Mike), all of Pendergrass; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Smith was born in Louisville, Kentucky, a daughter to the late Bernard Brown Moore and the late Katherine Francis Haller Moore. Mrs. Smith was an ed ucator and a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson, where she was involved in the Food Bank Ministry. While living in Flori da, Mrs. Smith was also an active member of the Bonifay First Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Pompano Beach. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preced ed in death by her husband, Broadus Fred Smith; sister, Maxene Moore Ray; brother, William Moore; and her son-in-law, Bryan Jackson.
