WEDNESDAY, MAY 3, 2023 THE JACKSON HERALD PAGE 7A Arcade PD Jefferson PD Recent incidents reported in Jefferson The following incidents were recently reported by the Jefferson Police Depart ment: •unauthorized use of a fi nancial transaction card on Hawkins Creek Dr. where a woman said someone used her card to make online purchases totaling nearly $1,000. •information on 1-85 where a broken down trac tor-trailer blocked the road way. • welfare check on Lee St. where officers checked on a woman after she made un usual comments to a family member. • financial transaction card fraud on Peachtree Rd. where a man said his ex-girlfriend used his bank account to make about $160 in purchases. •information on Lee St. where a man reported a tag was possibly stolen off a re possessed vehicle. •two-vehicle wreck with one injury on Hwy. 129. One person complained of back pain, but declined treatment. • missing medication on Sumner Way where Oxyco done was missing. •two-vehicle wreck with two injuries on 1-85. No one was transported to the hos pital. •two-vehicle wreck with two injuries on Hwy. 11. No one was transported to the hospital. •identity theft on Wash ington St. where a man re ported someone opened an account in his name, •two-vehicle wreck with one injury on Hwy. 11. No one was transported to the hospital. •information on Old Winder Hwy. where a fam ily left a restaurant without paying. •information on Borders St. where there was a dis pute between an adult and juvenile family members. •battery-family violence on Trade St. where a man was arrested after reported ly striking a woman during a dispute over a phone. •theft by taking on Law- renceville St. where some one took circuit breakers from an air conditioning unit. JCSO continued from 6A said his vehicle was damaged by a BB gun. •dispute on Fairview Rd. where a woman suspected her husband had taken her mail. •agency assist on Hubert Pittman Rd. where a man re fused medical treatment after a report of a drug overdose. • information on Sosbee Rd. where an incarcerated man said a woman let a man come and get his chainsaw. •dispute on Fairview Rd. where a woman reported water was cut off at a residence. • theft by deception on Pond Fork Church Rd. where a woman said a man emailed, asking her to buy gift cards and said he’d pay her back. The man said his email had been hacked and that he'd never asked for gift cards. •battery on Ridgewood Dr. where a woman said a man pulled her out of the vehicle and threw her to the ground. He reportedly wouldn’t get off of her and shuck her in the head. She said the man got off her and fled after she bit and hit him. SOUTH JACKSON • suspicious activity on Hwy. 441 where someone reported a man was throwing trash on the side of the road. The man de nied that and said he was pick ing up metal. •civil matter on Crooked Creek Rd. where a woman re ported a lock was changed at her residence. • suspicious activity on New Kings Bridge Rd. where a woman slept in a vehicle in a parking lot. •information on Jefferson River Rd. where someone drove a four-wheeler down the road. • suspicious activity on Tal- lassee Rd. where a woman re ported a suspicious man in the woods may have been doing “witchcraft.” • dispute on Crooked Creek Village where a man and wom an argued over missing Xanax. • threats on Ansley Ln. where a man reported anoth er man called him and made threats. •damage to a vehicle on Hwy. 330 a woman fell asleep while driving and the vehicle struck a tree. • theft by shoplifting on Hwy. 330 where a woman said a man put items in his jacket at a store. •hit and run on Hwy. 334 where a woman said another vehicle rear-ended her vehicle and the other driver left the scene. •harassing communications on Rapids Dr. where a woman said her boyfriend’s ex-girl- friend had been contacting them after being told to stop. WEST JACKSON •juvenile issue on Prestwick Dr. where a woman said her son refused to get up out of bed and go to school. •theft on Shirley Ct. where a woman said someone stole her motorcycle helmet. •criminal damage to proper ty and an unknown substance on Cedar Ridge Dr. where a woman said her grandson broke a basement door and punched multiple holes in a wall after being told his girl friend could not stay with him. Her grandson also reportedly threw a lamp down a hallway and tore a banister off a wall. According to the incident re port, a small glass vial belong ing to her grandson had a white powdery substance within it. The woman said her grandson brings multiple people into the residence to use drugs. •dispute on Amaranth Trail where a man said the people inside his residence would not let him inside. The man said he’d left his home a week ago because his girlfriend was with another man but he’d not moved out. •battery on Cooper Bridge Rd. where a man said another man struck him in the face with a pellet gun. The man said he went to the residence to settle an issue about a wallet when the other man pointed the bar rel of the gun at him and then struck him in the face with the gun barrel. The man reported ly had red marks and swelling around his right eye. He said he wanted to press charges. •suspicious activity on Dav enport Rd. where a man said multiple homeless people live on the property behind his res idence. •dispute on Crown Dr. where a man said his neighbor set his pampas grass on fire. The man said he was watching televi sion when his daughter saw the grass engulfed in flames. When he went outside to extin guish the fire, he said his neigh bor shouted at him to take care of his grass or that they would do it for him. The neighbor contended the grass was on her property and that she set the fire to kill overgrown grass. •missing person on Salt Lake Ln. where a woman said her mother told her she was on her way home and never arrived. •missing person on Skelton Rd. where a man said his juve nile daughter, who is pregnant, left their residence and told him not to attempt to find her. •juvenile issue on Freedom Pkwy. where a woman said her grandson told her another stu dent slammed his head into a bus window. •entering an automobile on Curk Roberts Rd. where a man said someone stole a bat tery charger from his unlocked truck. •entering an automobile on Davenport Rd. where a man said someone stole a cigarette converter, gym bag, sparring gear, gas can and hand wrench es from two unlocked vehicles. •theft on Hwy. 53 where an estimated $100,000 worth of building supplies was stolen from a commercial construc tion site. The stolen items included 32 rolls of roofing membrane, A GPS tracker placed on some of the materi als placed their location at an Atlanta commercial construc tion site. Atlanta police offi cers responded to the address and learned the stolen roofing materials had already been installed at the location. They found none of the other materi als at the location. According to Atlanta police, the workers on site, who they believed were hired labor, did not appear to be involved with the theft. •criminal trespass on Hwy. 124 where a male customer, possibly in his teens, reported ly yelled and cursed at a store employee regarding his fast food order. The male report edly refused to leave when asked and continued cursing at employees. He reportedly left, however, after learning law enforcement had been no tified. He was barred from the restaurant. •death investigation (non-murder) where a man was found unresponsive beside his bed by his roommate. Dep uties had previously responded to the residence for a welfare check on behalf of a family member who had not heard from him for several days. He said he hadn’t called due to his wifi being out. In an incident report following the man’s death, his son told a deputy that his father’s caretaker was using his father’s car and credit card. •damage to property on Mc- Neal Rd. where a woman said a driver struck and damaged her mailbox. •agency assist on New Liberty Church Rd. where a man possibly overdosed but reportedly refused medical treatment. •fraud on Gold Crest Lane where a woman said a man instructed her to pay $11,900 to bail her son out of jail for a DUI during which he hit a pregnant woman. He report edly told the woman to tell the bank the money was for home repairs and instructed her not to take the money to a bonds man. The woman said she planned to leave for the bank, but her son called her, telling her he was at work and not in jail. •battery/family violence on New Liberty Church Rd. where a man and his wife re portedly got into a physical altercation. The woman, who said her husband was high on Xanax, said the incident started as they wrestled over a phone. She said she pepper sprayed him to get him off her and stuck him with a night stick after he grabbed her by the throat and threw her to the ground. A family friend reportedly intervened during the incident and said he struck the man because he got in his face and appeared ready to hit him. The man was determined as the primary aggressor but was not arrested because he reportedly required hospital treatment for a potentially broken jaw. •suspicious activity on Jack- son Park Dr. where a man said someone claiming to work for Microsoft security told him a fraudulent wire to Russia for medical supplies was attempt ed from his bank account. The man contacted his bank about the alleged transfer and was told the information was a scam. Hallucinating man grabs tomahawk for protection Arcade police were recently called af ter a man thought he saw someone in a shed on his property. Officers with the Arcade Police Depart ment were called for the suspicious inci dent on N. Trotters Way. When they arrived, the complainant was standing in the yard with a tomahawk and hammer in one hand and a cup of a green liquid (possibly tea) in the other. He also had a knife in a sheath on his belt. The man said two men in ghillie suits with rifles broke into his shed and one of them was still inside. The man had nailed a tree limb across the door so the person couldn’t get out. But officers said no one was in the shed and it seemed the man was hallucinating. OTHER INCIDENTS Other recent incidents reported to the APD included: •911 hangup on Segars St. where offi cers assisted with a traffic stop. One per son was arrested after suspected metham- phetamine was found. • suspicious incident on Williamson St. where a woman found mail on the side of the road. •welfare check on North Trotters Way where officers checked on a juvenile. •agency assist on Jefferson River Rd. where officers assisted with a single-ve hicle wreck. • agency assist on Stan Evans Dr. where officers gave someone a breath test. • animal complaint on Hwy. 82 where a cow was standing near the road. •suspicious incident on Hwy. 129 where someone reported someone was in a Ford Crown Victoria in a turning lane, flashing the vehicle’s brake lights at on coming traffic. •agency assist on Hwy. 129 where offi cers assisted with a single-vehicle wreck involving an overturned semi-truck with fuel spillage. •lost/mislaid property on Hightower Ct. where a woman lost keys. • theft by shoplifting on Hwy. 82 where someone stole $110 worth of merchan dise. • ungovernable child on Carruth Rd. • agency assist on Athens Hwy. where someone struck a power pole, causing lines to fall across the road. • verbal dispute on Hwy. 82 where two people argued. •runaway juvenile and ungovernable child on South Trotters Way where a ju venile skipped school. His parent thought he may have been with his girlfriend. • suspicious incident on Hwy. 82 where a woman reported someone dropped a man off in front of her house, then came back to pick him up. •suspicious incident on Tanglewood Rd. where someone reported a loud “boom.” •agency assist on Elrod Ave. where someone was shot with an air soft gun, resulting in minor redness. • suspicious incident on Park St. where a man reported three juveniles were look ing into a window. • agency assist on Hwy. 82 where a man reported an injured owl on his property. •animal control on White Oak Trail where someone reported an aggressive dog. •suspicious incident on Rock Forge Rd. where an anonymous caller wanted officers to make a Department of Family and Children Services referral. •battery-family violence; criminal tres pass: and aggravated on Swann Rd. The suspect had left when officers arrived and the alleged victim said she was not injured. •battery; aggravated assault-family violence; criminal trespass; aggravat ed stalking; and cruelty to children on Swann Rd. A man reported kicked in a door and assaulted someone. PUBLIC HEARING The Jackson County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2023, at the Jackson County Courthouse at 5000 Jack- son Parkway, Jefferson, Georgia, to consider the following matter: 1. Maddox Landing subdivision, represented by Bryan Ponder, is requesting the creation of a Special Tax District for Street Lighting to provide a mechanism for the property owners of the subdivision to pay for the street lights within the subdivision. (Tax Map 112, Parcel 035 1).
