WEDNESDAY, MAY 31, 2023 THE JACKSON HERALD PAGE 3B o o School Moak receives Farm Bureau scholarship Davis Moak, a graduate of Jeffer son High School, received the Donald Childs Scholarship that is awarded by Jackson County Farm Bureau. Moak will begin her freshman year at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural Col lege pursuing a major in Agribusiness. Childs, a longtime Georgia Farm Bureau volunteer, served on the GFB Board of Directors from 1979 to 2008 and was the North Georgia Vice Presi dent from 1984-2008. This scholarship was originated in his honor to recog nize and assist a deserving young per son who is pursuing a college degree in agriculture or a related field. The scholarship is designed to promote leadership development within the ag riculture sector, to encourage students to appreciate the values and opportu nities of rural life, and to foster an in terest on the part of young people in Jackson County. Ledford receives Farm Bureau scholarship Joseph Ledford, a graduate of Empow er College and Career Center, received the Donald Childs Scholarship that is award ed by Jackson County Farm Bureau. Commerce FFA making bee ‘hotels’ Members of a Commerce High School FFA class are making wooden bee “hotels” in an effort to provide housing for the important pollinators in the community. NEWS FROM COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES PIEDMONT ANNOUNCES 2023 GRADUATES Over 300 Piedmont University students received undergraduate and graduate degrees on Friday. May 5, during two commencement ceremonies. Georgia Lance, a Jackson County High School junior, was among recipients. Lance was awarded as part of the Region One Act All-Star Cast for 2021 and 2022, she was a 2022 Geor gia Governor’s Honors Program nominee and 2023 semi-finalist in voice. In addition to her vocal perform ing talents, she is also a member of the National Honor Society and served as the first chair in French Horn for the Jackson County High School Band. Lance plans to attend college to continue her studies in music and theatre, with the hopes of performing as a professional actress with a musical theatre company or show. Performing and visual arts scholarships are open to 9th through 12th grade high school students in the Northeast Georgia region. See more college and university news on 8B.
