The museum’s cur rent director, Vicki Starnes, is retiring from her role after over 15 years. Bleech graduated from Emmanuel College in 2016 with a bachelor of science in history and obtained her master’s in museum studies through Johns Hopkins Uni versity. She has completed two internships at the Jekyll Island Museum, worked as a docent at Hardman Farm State Historic Site, and went on to serve as the Director of Callaway Plantation in Washington. She currently holds the position of library manager at the Jefferson Public Library and said she is excited to combine her two passions of literature and museum work. In her free time, Bleech enjoys playing the piano, writing and reading outside. MARENA BLEECH I •* * * ^ ■ Dylan and Caroline Greene, students at South Jackson Elementary School, have signed up for the 2023 summer reading program at the Nicholson library. Grant supports summer reading at Nicholson library The Harold S. Swindle Public Library in Nicholson is a recipient of the Dollar General Literacy Grant. The grant helps to support the children’s Summer Read ing Program. This year’s Summer Reading Program theme is All Together Now. Sign up for the Sum mer Reading Program at the library or go to prlib. beanstack.org. Every child that registers will receive a free cookie from the Sub way at Banks Crossing, a sticker and a bookmark. As children complete read ing levels, they earn prizes. Readers who complete 45 books/12.5 hours of reading will earn a ticket for one of the grand prizes. Adults can win prizes, too. From June 2-23, the li brary will draw a winner for weekly prize bags. To enter, check out and read at least two books from the library. Upon return, fill out a ticket for the drawing. In other news at the Nich olson library: •The Nicholson library welcomes the Half Moon Petting Zoo on Thursday, June 1, at 10:30 a.m. The program is free for all ages with a caregiver. •The library will have Mermaid Story Time on Tuesday. June 6. at 2 p.m. and on Thursday, June 8, at 10:30 a.m. The craft will be friendship pins. All pro grams are free for all ages with a caregiver. •The Nicholson Pub lic Library is raffling off a handmade Georgia Bull dog Quilt. Tickets are $1 each. The drawing will be on July 1. Tickets are avail able at the library. The quilt was made by the “Quilting Friends of the Harold S. Swindle Public Library.” All monies raised support the Children's Reading Pro gram. Gary Watson, who has been leading the adult yoga programs at the Com merce Library for quite some time, will be offering “Kid Yoga” on Monday June 5 at either 1 or 1:30 p.m. Regis tration is needed. Baby and Me continues on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. •On Thursday, June 8, from 6-8 p.m., there will be a free first-time Homebuyers Education Class presented by Pinnacle Bank. Those inter ested or who need a refresher are welcome to attend. • Additionally, there will be a Block Party at Ridling Park on June 8 from 4-6 p.m. with food, Kona Ice, games and PuRL (the pop up rolling library). The fire department will also be present to keep kids cool with the tanker fire truck. Children’s librarian Brittney Warren says, “be sure to bring a towel if you plan to get wet.” •There will be an after noon of Family Folk Danc ing, a Korean Cultural per formance with dancing and music, as well as a Beauty of Bee storytime.
