Recent incidents
reported in Commerce
The following incidents were recently
reported by the Commerce Police Depart
ment:
•information report on Oconee Ln.
where a man said his daughter took his
vehicle without permission.
•theft by deception-felony on Nolana
Dr. where a man reported a rental scam.
•domestic dispute on Heritage Hills Dr.
where family members argued and one of
them threatened to kill the other. There
was also a firearm on the scene. The in
cident apparently caused a scene with a
number of people congregating in a park
ing lot.
•civil matter on South Elm St. where a
man reported a custody dispute.
•lost/mislaid property on South Elm St.
where an officer found a suitcase at the
police department.
•theft by shoplifting on Maysville Rd.
where a woman reported took beer from a
store without paying for it.
•entering auto on Arlington Ln. where
a woman said her wallet was taken from
her vehicle.
•driving under the influence (DUI);
possession of amphetamine; and drugs
not in original container on South Broad
St. where a woman was arrested after
someone reported she’d fallen asleep at
the wheel and was revving the engine. She
reportedly appeared intoxicated and was
arrested after a field sobriety test. Officers
also found Alprazolam in the vehicle.
•information on Old Allen Rd. where
officers responded to a business after a
woman called 911. The woman was not
on the scene when officers arrived. The
owner of the business was reportedly irate
that officers were there. Officers spoke
with the woman on the phone, who said
she was fine.
•entering auto on Steve Reynolds In
dustrial Pkwy. where a man said his fire
arm was stolen from his vehicle.
•driving while license is suspended
or revoked; possession of methamphet-
amine; and possession of a controlled sub
stance or marijuana on Andy Ct. where a
woman was arrested after falling asleep in
a vehicle. Officers later found suspected
methamphetamine and Oxycodone Hy
drochloride on the woman.
•information on Andy Ct. where a man
reported his girlfriend’s father had been
harassing him.
•damage to property on 1-85 where a
hood popped up on a vehicle, striking the
windshield and causing the driver to run
into the median.
•harassing communications on North-
wood Dr. where a woman reported a man
harassed her and sent possibly threatening
emails regarding a homeowners associa
tion issue.
•lost/mislaid property on Crossing
Place where a man said his laptop was
missing.
•financial transaction card fraud on
South Elm St. where there was fraudulent
activity on a man’s bank account.
•domestic dispute on Willoughby
Homes where family members had a dis
pute.
•hit and run on Steve Reynolds Industri
al Pkwy. where a man said a driver struck
him while he was walking in a parking lot.
The man said his ann and hip were hurt.
Officers said surveillance footage showed
the victim push off the front bumper, but
didn’t see the vehicle make contact with
the man’s body.
•criminal trespass on Crossing Place
where a man and woman argued about a
keyed vehicle.
•death investigation on Maysville Rd.
where a man was found not breathing
in a store restroom. He was transport
ed to Northeast Georgia Medical Center
Gainesville. A family member said he had
been sick.
•failure to maintain lane and driving un
der the influence (DUI)-alcohol-less safe
on Mt. Olive Rd. where a man was arrest
ed after hitting a mailbox. He reportedly
smelled of alcohol and was arrested after
field sobriety and breath tests.
Dog attacks police K-9 during pursuit
A police dog was attacked by
another dog during pursuit of a
suspect in Jefferson.
Officers with the Jefferson
Police Department attempted
to stop a man on Washington
St. who they knew had war
rants and a suspended license.
The man reportedly turned into
a residence off Washington St.
and fled on foot, running in the
woodline toward Elder Dr.
A K-9 unit was called to track
tiie man. At one point, a dog in a
yard attacked the police dog and
an officer had to tase the other
dog to separate the two.
The track was ultimately
called off due to the length of it
and the heat of the day.
The suspect was later found
walking down Elder Dr. and was
arrested.
He was arrested for crimi
nal trespass; driving under the
influence (DUI); driving while
license is suspended or revoked;
no insurance; obstruction; and
warrants.

Duck Ct. where an estranged
couple had a dispute. The
woman said the man threw and
kicked boxes during the dispute.

where a vehicle was damaged in
a parking lot.

an issue during a pizza delivery.
•information on Hwy. 129
where two homeless people
were given a criminal trespass
warning.

ticed damage to his vehicle,
•wanted person located and
possession of a firearm by a con
victed felon on MLK Dr. where
a man was arrested during a
traffic stop and officers found a
firearm in the vehicle.

where a man was arrested after
reportedly causing damage.

was retrieved by a family mem
ber after having a possible men
tal episode.

where a woman said someone
threatened via text message to
kill/hurt her and her children if
she didn’t send money.

found deceased. She had report
edly had a medical issue in the
days prior.

two reportedly pulled into a
driveway and went around
back to a dog pen. When of
ficers arrived, the man was
trying to get into the dog pen.
Deputies saw syringes in the
vehicle and the woman later
told them that one of them
contained fentanyl. Officers
also found suspected meth
amphetamine in the woman’s
purse.

WEST JACKSON
•hit-and-run on 1-85 South
bound where a driver said
another driver struck the rear
of his vehicle, moved to the
emergency lane and then
sideswiped his vehicle. The
driver said he rolled down his
window to tell the other driv
er to pull over, but the other
driver responded, “f&$%
you, I’ll shoot you.” The
other driver then reportedly
continued southbound on the
interstate.

someone took her purse, wal
let and hoodie from her un
locked car.

Kerby Circle where a man
said he saw someone going
through his vehicle. He said
he pressed his unlock button
to startle the suspect, who re
portedly jumped into the pas
senger seat of a vehicle that
left the scene. He said a “man
purse” and wallet containing
his driver’s license and social
security card were stolen.

reportedly overcorrected her
vehicle, which left the road
way and landed on its side.
The driver said she did not re
member anything during the
accident and was transported
to Northeast Georgia Medical
Center-Gainesville.

to a woman he “had issues
with” was parked across the
street from his residence.

reportedly fled after striking a
vehicle in a parking lot.

an Amazon van reportedly
rolled into a garage door,
knocking it in. The driver
reportedly dropped off the
package and left.

vacy on Sunrise Dr. where
a man said he received an
email from someone who
accused him of downloading
a pornographic image and
threatened to send that image
to his list of contacts if he did
not pay $400 in Bitcoin.
•animal complaint on
Johnson Dr. where a woman
reported a large brown snake
in her closet. The woman
contacted an animal removal
company after a deputy could
not find the snake.
•simple battery on Panther
Ct. where a man and his ju
venile son reportedly got into
a physical altercation over the
son’s smoking in the garage.
The responding deputy re
portedly saw no marks on the
juvenile’s face or body. Ac
cording to the incident report,
the deputy made no arrest
due to a lack of evidence and
no determination of a prima
ry aggressor.

neighbor continues to yell
and play drums all night.
She said when her husband
confronted the neighbor, the
neighbor said he’d contin
ue to play loudly and shoot
guns at their house.

Please take notice that the Maysville
Planning & Zoning Board will hold a
public hearing on June 29, 2023, 6:30
p.m. to receive public comment on the
