A crowd turned out for the Commerce Public Li
brary’s Block Party at Ridling Field on Thursday,
June 8.
Summer reading is in full
swing at the Commerce
Public Library.
“Prizes are already be
ing given to those who are
finishing five squares, or
more, on their Bingo cards,
“ states Library Assistant
Natalie Thompson. “We’ve
even had several readers
who have completed three
Bingo challenges and have
been entered into the final
Funopolis gift card raffle.”
Teens, adults and babies are
reading towards their own
prizes.
A bevy of activities are
also available at the library
or online through Piedmont
Regional resources such as
Beanstack, ABC Mouse or
World Book online. Family
story times, Baby and Me,
and Smash Brothers contin
ue weekly, while adults can
join in on Yoga, Hooks and
Needles, Writers Club or the
new Beekeepers Club. All
ages are invited to Chess
weekly during the summer
as well, and Family Lego
Club continues on the first
and third Saturdays.
On Thursday, June 22,
at 6:30 p.m. there will be a
Korean Cultural program
which will showcase tra
ditional Samulnori music.
Samulnori means “the play
of four things” and is tradi
tionally performed outside
while combining four differ
ent percussive instruments.
Join others in the Memorial
Garden, weather permitting,
to enjoy this performance of
Korean folk music.

present the program.

day, June 22, at 11 a.m.
Duo Nathan Kepner and
Morgan Tsu-Raun will
present the program. The
program is free and open
to all ages accompanied
with a caregiver.

all summer programs will
be held in the Library An
nex Room located at Ben
ton Hall.
•Adult Summer Read
ing is under way. Each
week, the library will draw
a winner for our weekly
prize bag. To enter, check
out and read books from
the library. You can choose
adult/young adult (YA) au
diobooks, adult/YA fiction
or non-fiction books. Upon
return, fill out a ticket for
the drawing.
•The Nicholson library
is raffling off a handmade
Georgia Bulldog Quilt.
Tickets are $1 each and
can be purchased at the li
brary. The drawing will be
on July 1 at the Nicholson
Independence Day Festi
val. The quilt was made
by the “Quilting Friends
of the Harold S. Swindle
Public Library.” All mon
ies raised support the chil
dren’s Summer Reading
Program.
The Harold S. Swindle Public Library in Nicholson recently hosted Mer
maid Story Time with Mermaid Kasey. There were over 100 people in atten
dance, including those from daycare and the Boys & Girls Club of Jackson
County. Mermaid Kasey is pictured with Valerie and Genesis Robles.
