Paul Eugene "Gene” Coombs
WINDER — Paul Eugene “Gene” Coombs, 76,
Winder, entered rest Saturday, September 2, 2023.
Mr. Coombs was bom
in Battles Wharf, Ala
bama, a son of the late
Leon Eugene Coombs
and the late Faye Annette
Mayberry Coombs.
Mr. Coombs was a
member of the Jackson
County Baptist Church,
was a Lay Minister and
was involved in chil
drens, bus and prison
ministries and enjoyed
reading and studying the scriptures.
Mr. Coombs was retired from the Lockheed Cor
poration after 21 years and was blessed to be able
to work at what he loved as a journeyman tool and
die maker. After retiring Mr. Coombs worked for
Bar Code Depot for another 10 years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Coombs is pre
ceded by a brother, Jerry Michael Coombs; son,
Stephen Kirk Coombs; step-son Bryan Turk; and
grandson, Patrick Coombs
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Rita
Spriggs Coombs, Winder; son, Christopher Mi
chael Coombs (Rhonda), Winder; daughter, Steph
anie Lynn Hood (Aaron), Winder; grandchil
dren, David Coombs, Noah Coombs, Mackinlee
Coombs, Kevin Coombs, Samantha Hroma, Mi
chelle Snyder, Rachel Hood, Tristan Turk and C
J Turk; two great-grandchildren, Hadley Coombs
and Nora Turk; and a brother, Dwight Coombs,
Robertsdale, Alabama, also survives.
Funeral service: Wednesday, September 6,2023,
at 2 p.m. from the Jackson County Baptist Church
with the Reverend Matt Booher and Dr. Jack Law-
son officiating. Mr. Coombs will he in state from
1-2 p.m. Burial will follow in Evans Memory
Gardens. Gentlemen honored as pallbearers are
David Coombs, Noah Coombs, Michael Snyder,
Zac Hroma, Stephen Ousley, Ian Farlow, Anthony
Cook and Billy Parson.
Family to receive friends: Tuesday, September 5,
2023, from 5-8 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home.

J.W. Epps
J.W. Epps, 86, beloved husband, father and
grandfather passed away on Tuesday, August 29,
2023.
J.W. was an avid fish
erman, devoted NA
SCAR fan, and Ford
Mustang enthusiast. He
was retired from West-
inghouse, where he
worked for more than
38 years.
J.W. was bom in
Royston on May 1,
1937, and was the son of
the late Willard and Jes
sie Epps.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Damron
Epps; his infant children, Michael and Anita Epps;
and his sisters, Nettie Mae McCarty and Betty Jo
Fowler.
Survivors include his children, Bruce (Denise)
Epps and Gloria (Jim) Booth; grandchildren, Me
lissa (Kieser) Hull, Michael Epps, Amanda (Dari
us) Ross, Meagan (Eric) Woods and Wesley Booth;
eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Eulene Ingram,
Willene Disharoon and Melinda Bernard; brother,
Gary Epps; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their apprecia
tion to friend and caregiver, Jennifer Parham, and
Bristol Hospice for their care.
Funeral service: Friday, September 1, 2023, at
11 a.m. at Gilead Baptist Church, 42 Booger Hill
Road, Danielsville, Ga. 30633.

Mildred Katherine Evans
NICHOLSON — Mildred Katherine Evans, 79,
Nicholson, passed away peacefully on Sunday,
August 27, 2023, at her home after an extended
illness.
Mrs. Evans was bom in Ila to the late Esco and
Leila Pruitt Wood and was the 8th of 14 children.
Prior to having children, Mildred worked at Blue
Bell Sewing Company and Belk in Commerce.
From 1970 to 1980, she was a homemaker un
til she began working in the lunchroom at Athens
Christian School, where her children attended. She
retired as lunchroom manager at ACS in 2000, af
ter 20 years of service.
She attended Grove Level Church and was a care
leader in the Adult Sunday School class until she
was unable to attend church. Mildred played the
piano and sang with her loving husband, Donald,
at all the churches she attended over her lifetime.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Blanche
Wood and Johnnie Sue Wallace; and brothers, Joe
Wood, Frank Wood, Dyson “Chick” Wood and
Kimsey Wood.
Mildred is survived by her devoted husband of
60 years, James Donald Evans, Nicholson; son,
Parrish (Julie) Evans; daughters, Dawn (Jep)
Crane and Summer Evans, all of Nicholson; seven
grandchildren, Ward (Allie) Evans, Addison Ev
ans, Mackenzie Evans, Ariana Crane, Aleah Crane,
Lexie Evans and Xander Evans; two great-grand
children, Lucy Evans and Hendrix Evans; broth
ers, Gene Wood, Nicholson, Bill (Carol) Wood,
Commerce, Dillard (Derenda) Wood, Martinsville,
Virginia, and Danny (Cathy) Wood, Winterville;
sisters, Fay Wilbanks, Nicholson, Gladys (John)
Palmer, Nicholson, and Patsy (Johnny) Wilbanks,
Maysville; sisters-in-law, Floy Nell Smith Wood,
Nicholson, Reba Wood, Commerce, and Glenda
Wood, Ila; as well as several generations of nieces
and nephews.
Funeral service: Thursday, August 31, 2023, at
2 p.m. at Nicholson Baptist Church with the Rev.
John Wood officiating with interment to follow in
Nicholson Cemetery.

Jerry Dee Lampp
STATHAM — Jerry Dee Lampp, 80, Statham,
passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023.
Jerry was born in
Dublin to the late Mattie
Ray Morris and Ressie
Franklin Lampp. His
position as a salesman
for Yocam Diamond
Battery brought him to
Barrow County. He was
the owner/operator of
Lampp Battery-HiAmp
from 1968 until 2006.
Jerry was a past mem
ber of the Barrow Coun
ty Board of Commissioners and enjoyed serving
the citizens of Barrow County. He was a member
of 1025 Church in Statham.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in
death by his brothers, Daniel Ray Lampp, Floyd
Gene Lampp, James Madison Lampp Hartley and
Horace Grady Underwood; and his sister, Grace
Underwood Rye.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy
Dixon Lampp; his sister, Mary Frances McDan
iel, Dublin; his children, David (Kim C.) Lampp,
Winder, Ken (Shannon Park) Lampp, Wind
er, Jeffery (Ginger) Lampp, Statham, and Jason
(Kim M.) Lampp, Statham; grandchildren, Chase,
Duke, Zeb, Sarah, Emily and Chandler; and seven
great-grandchildren.
Funeral service: Wednesday, September 6, 2023,
at 4 p.m. in Smith Memory Chapel.

ber 6, 2023, from 2 until 4 p.m. at Smith Funeral
Home.

Martin T. Mann
COMER — Martin T. Mann, 62, Comer, passed
away on Monday, August 21, 2023.
He was the son of the late Edwin E. Mann; he
was also preceded by his maternal grandmother,
Mamie Dell Black; and paternal grandparents,
Ernest and Dezzie Mae Mann. He was a lifelong
member of Danielsville Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife, Melissa Mann; mother,
Freida Mann; son, Dylan Mann; step-children,
Brandon Flurer and Katelyn Robinson; brother,
Morris (Pam) Mann; and grandson, Kylan Robin
son.
No services are scheduled at this time.

A.C. Neese
COMER—A.C. Neese, 71, Comer, entered rest
Saturday, September 2,2023.
Mr. Neese was bom in Jefferson, a son of the
late Paul Neese and the late Mozelle Shirley Neese
Holmes. Mr. Neese was a painter in the construc
tion industry.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Neese is preceed-
ed by brothers, Odell Neese, and Clarence Neese;
and sisters, Shirley Holmes, Polly Jones and Carol
Beck.
Survivors include two daughters, Shannon Sneed
and Elizabeth Rickey, Eatonton; son, Justin Neese,
Hull; three sisters, Leila Daniel, Barbara Sue Car-
len and Debbie Holmes; and one brother, Buddy
Holmes.
In accordance with the wishes of Mr. Neese, his
remains will be cremated and a family memorial
service will be held on a future date.

Mavis Kathleen Preston
Mavis Kathleen Preston was bom on May 25,
1941. She received her eternal reward on Saturday,
September 2, 2023.
She committed her
life to Jesus many years
ago and served him with
her whole heart.
A native of Madison
County, she was the
daughter of the late Paul
James Hughes Sr. and
Elise Black Hughes.
She was also preced
ed in death by her sib
lings, James Hughes,
J.B. Hughes, Sallie Mae
Whitehead, Evie Lee Shaw and Annie Sue Steele.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law,
Steve and Beth Russell of Colbert, and daughter,
Kathy Russell of Comer, and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral service: Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at
2 p.m. at Lord and Stephens, Danielsville Chapel,
with Pastors Tim Hammond and Bobby Miller of
ficiating. The interment will be in Meadow Cem
etery. Pallbearers are Chris Clark, Chris Bus-
bin, Jeff Jordan, Blake Smith, Andy Wilson and
Kevin Miller.

Kathy Lewallen Sheridan
Kathy Lewallen Sheridan, 58, of the Holling
sworth community, went home to be with the Lord
on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, after a brief ill
ness.
Mrs. Sheridan was bom on February 7, 1965, in
Jackson County to the late Ralph and Liza Mae
Payne Lewallen. In addition to her parents, she
was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward Le
wallen, Milton Lewallen, Kenneth Lewallen, Roy
Lewallen, Tommy Lewallen and Mark Lewallen;
and sister, Lenora Simmons.
