where she prepared the food for many Vacation Bi
ble Schools throughout the years. Kathy was the
owner of Jack & Jill Daycare Center in Cornelia
during the 1980’s, having a love for working with
children. She had also worked in the lunch room
for many years at Banks County Schools, Habersh
am County Schools and the Ninth District Oppor
tunity. During the summers, she also worked as the
lunchroom manager at Camp Evergreen.
Kathy will be remem
bered for her love for
crafting, scrapbooking,
decorating for holidays
and traveling, but most
of all she will be re
membered for her love
for her family. She was
devoted most of all to
her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her
loving husband of 40
years, Rickey Sheridan,
and Katie and Kylie Tench, of the home; her niec
es, Tina Simmons and Latasha Spence; sisters and
brothers-in-law, Carol and Bill Wood, Commerce,
Diane and David Poole, Baldwin, Nancy and Ken
Simmons, Baldwin, and Lois and Wendell Poole,
Baldwin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and
Donna Lewallen, Baldwin, and Jr. and Melba Le-
wallen, Baldwin; and numerous nieces and neph
ews as well.
Funeral service: Sunday, September 3, 2023, at
2 p.m. at Mt. View Baptist Church with Pastors
Chad Parker and Jamie Harvey officiating. Inter
ment will follow in the church cemetery.
Family to receive friends: Saturday, September
2, 2023, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Whitfield
Funeral Home, South Chapel. Mrs. Sheridan will
he in state from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Septem
ber 3, 2023, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South
Chapel, for those that would like to pay their re
spect.
Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be
made in Kathy’s Memory to Katie’s and Kylie’s

Robert Charles “Bob” Sosebee Sr.
COMMERCE — Robert Charles “Bob” Sose
bee Sr., 75, Commerce, died Wednesday, August
30, 2023, at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical
Center.
Mr. Sosebee was bom
in Toccoa to the late
Carl Charles and Bobbie
Bush Sosebee.
Mr. Sosebee was a
graduate of Toccoa High
School; University of
Georgia, BBA degree,
major in finance; School
of Banking at Louisiana
State University; Com
mercial Lending School,
C&S National Bank;
and Georgia Academy of Economic Development.
He was a long-time member of the Commerce
Kiwanis Club and a realtor with Century 21 Com
munity Realty and later, R&D Realty. He was a
member of First Baptist Church of Commerce and
a veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Sosebee lived a life of public service. He
served over 25 years on the Commerce City Coun
cil; chairman, Commerce Downtown Develop
ment Authority, 1985-2009; Georgia Municipal
Association Board of Directors; Georgia Munici
pal Association Executive Committee; president,
Georgia Municipal Association, 1998-1999; di
rector of Georgia Music Hall of Fame, 1999-2004;
member of State of Georgia Housing Finance
Authority, 1999-2004; Georgia Trust for Historic
Preservation Trustee, 1999-2003; Georgia Cities
Foundation board member, 1999-2000; Geor
gia Employees Benefit System Board of Trust
ees, 1999-2001, chairman, 1999-2001; president
of Georgia Downtown Association, 1992; board
member, Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia,
2000-2009; charter board member of Boys & Girls
Club of Jackson County; member of State of Geor
gia Rural Development Council, 2000-2005; and
National League of Cities Economic Development
Committee, 1998-2002.
During his span as a public servant, Mr. Sosebee
received the Georgia Municipal Association Com
munity Leadership Award, 1996; Distinguished
Service Award for Northeast Georgia, 2000; Geor
gia Municipal Association Hall of Fame, 2000; and
State of Georgia resolution for Outstanding Service
and Leadership to the State of Georgia - presented
by Governor Sonny Perdue, 2005.
Mr. Sosebee is survived by his wife of 54 years,
Donna Tolbert Sosebee, Commerce; daughter,
Heather Hobbs (Clay), Nicholson; son, Chad Sose
bee (Brooke), Commerce; grandchildren, Carson
Hobbs, Grace Hobbs, Jake Hobbs, Ladd Sosebee
and Lakyn Sosebee.
Funeral service: Friday, September 1, 2023, at
11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Commerce with
the Rev. Philip Vestal officiating. Interment will
follow in Grey Hill Cemetery.
Family to receive friends: Thursday, August 31,
2023, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Baptist Church of Commerce or the Banks-Jack-
son Food Bank.

Ada Elizabeth Pirkle Spruill
HARTSFIELD — Ada Elizabeth Pirkle Spruill,
70, Hartsfield, a former Jacksonian, passed away
Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at her residence follow
ing an extended illness.
Ada was born Febru
ary 10, 1953, to the late
Jack Usry Pirkle and
Lida Westbrook Pirkle
of Hoschton. Ada was a
member of First Baptist
Church Moultrie. She
loved the Lord, her fam
ily, farming and fellow
ship.
She was a 1971 grad
uate of Jefferson High
School, a 1973 honor
graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural Col
lege, as well as a 1975 graduate of the University
of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.
She was a Master 4-H’er and lifelong FFA support
er.
Ada was a devoted wife to her husband Jack for
48 years. She was an accomplished homemaker
who could make the best biscuits, pecan pies and
layer cakes. “Momma” for 45 years and “Granna”
for 18 years, she loved, encouraged and celebrated
her family.
An avid agriculturalist, Ada managed Indian
Creek Dairy Farm in Jackson County from 1975 to
1991, and operated Steadfast Farms horse board
ing operation at the same location from 1992 to
2012. She believed a farm was the best place to
raise a family.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Spruill,
Hartsfield; sister, Frances Benson, Hartsfield; son,
Robert Spruill (Brooke), Moultrie; daughters,
Carol Lawrence (Shannon), Kite, and Abby Tip-
pens (Cliff), Blairsville; and grandchildren, Char
lie Spruill, Emma Lawrence, Wyatt Spruill, Ben
Spruill, John Tippens, Clay Lawrence, Andrea
Spruill, Hoyt Lawrence, Carter Tippens, Samuel
Tippens and Zeke Lawrence.
Funeral service: Saturday, September 2, 2023, at
2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Moultrie with the
Rev. Matt Peek officiating. Interment will follow in
Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens.
Family to receive friends: Friday, September 1,
2023, from 6-8 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Chapel and
Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 1-2 p.m. at
First Baptist Church of Moultrie.

Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Wood
WINDER — Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Wood, 76,
Winder, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023.
She was a member of Bethlehem Church. She
was a native of Bethlehem and the daughter of the
late Royce and Sybil Pierce Gunter.
Barbara worked hard and retired from Mitsubishi
as an operator. She loved painting, sewing and cro
cheting. Barbara loved her family, especially her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded
in death by her son, Ronnie Doster.
She is survived by her
loving husband of 39
years, Delany Wood,
Winder; two daughters,
Mechelle Engemann
(Carl), Loganville, and
Wendy Beverly (Denis),
Bethlehem; a brother,
Ricky Gunter, Wind
er; four sisters, Brenda
Bramlett (Raymond),

Winder; six grandchildren, Brian Doster (Candace),

gust 31, 2023, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Smith
Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Barrow
Memorial Gardens.
