The East Jackson Ea gles improved to 3-0 for the third time in program history — and the first time since 2019 — with a massive 42-7 victory over West Hall Sept.l. The Eagles are idle this week and will visit Franklin County on Sept. 15, their first road con test of the season. Against West Hall, sophomore quarterback Drew Richardson com pleted 21 of 25 passes for 295 yards with two touchdowns in the vic tory. Richardson also rushed for 55 yards and a TD. Fellow sophomore Braxton Goolsby hauled in 10 catches for 154 yards to lead the Eagles, while senior Talan Jack- son caught six passes for 108 yards and a score. Senior Nate Heiss also caught a touchdown. On the ground, junior Quay Hill scored two touchdowns, while ju nior Jazeil Lester added a touchdown. West Hall scored the first touchdown of the game, taking a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. East Jackson then scored 42 unanswered points, including 14 in the second quarter and 21 in the third quarter. JCHS volleyball The Jackson County High School volleyball team has moved to 19-1. It will face Apalachee Thursday (Sept. 7) and North Forsyth (Sept. 12). Both matches are road contests. JCHS volleyball now 19-1 after three more wins The Jackson County High School volleyball team pushed its record to 19-1 with three more wins as it nears a pivotal region matchup with North Forsyth next week. The Panthers rolled past Archer (25-20, 25-19), Mountain View (25-13, 25-8) and Madison County (25-11, 25-15, 25-15) last week. Ruthie Fowler led the Panthers over Archer with 13 kills. Paisley Gillespie added eight kills and 16 digs. Sydney McCutcheon recorded a double-double with 18 assists and 10 digs. Allyson Page tallied 10 kills in the lopsided win over Mountain View. Gillespie had seven digs, and Mc Cutcheon finished with 17 assists. Paisley Gillespie sparked Jackson County with 12 kills against Madison County. Andrea Seagraves, Ava Lesniak and Fowler all recorded seven assists. Mc Cutcheon totaled 18 assists. The Panthers have a Thursday (Sept. 7,6 p.m.) match at Apalachee before a matchup with co-region leader North Forsyth. The two teams are undefeated in region play and will collide Tuesday (Sept. 12) at 6 p.m. at North Forsyth (15-8). Jackson County defeated North Forsyth for the re gion title last year, but the Raiders ended up advancing to the Class AAAAAA semifinals. JHS football Dragons blank St. Pius X 42-0 The Jefferson Dragons handed Coach Travis Noland a present last week in the form of his 200th career win by rolling over St. Pius X 42-0. The Dragons, 3-0, are now preparing to face Noland’s former school, Oconee County, at home this week. The Dragons are currently ranked #4 in the 5A division in the state. Last week, Jefferson dominated St. Pius X from the start by scoring 14 points in the first quarter and 21 in the second quarter. The Dragons got another stellar performance from junior quarterback Gavin Markey who com pleted 10 of 14 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns. His top receiver against St. Pius X was Rodney Hinton who had 98 yards on four re ceptions and one touchdown. Markey also threw touchdown passes to Zay Minish and Christopher Law. On the ground, the Dragons were again led by senior Sammy Brown who had 13 carries for 86 yards and two touchdowns. Mickell Pittman had 12 carries for 66 yards while backup QB junior Forest Ross had 29 yards on five carries and one TD. On defense, the Dragons were led by Brown who had five solo and four assists on tackles fol lowed by Rett Hemphill who had four solo and three assists. Junior Kelan Butler also had a sack for a five-yard loss. After the first three games, Markey has com pleted 24 passes in 45 attempts (53.3%) with Hin ton having 138 yards receiving. Brown has totaled 303 yards on 43 carries and 8 touchdowns so far this season. o
