Man flees hospital, steals vehicle
A man recently fled from
the hospital and stole a ve
hicle to leave the scene.
Officers with the Jef
ferson Police Department
arrested the man for theft
by receiving stolen proper
ty; theft by taking-felony;
hit and run; entering auto;
theft by taking; failure to
yield; possession of a fire
arm or knife during com
mission of a crime; and
criminal trespass.
According to the report,
the man had been invol
untarily committed for a
mental health evaluation at
Piedmont Athens Regional
Medical Center. He told
officers he got scared and
fled the hospital, stealing
a running truck to flee the
scene.
He was involved in a
wreck on Hwy. 11 at Hill
top Dr. and fled on foot. He
wound up stealing another
vehicle and drove home.
He left the stolen vehicle at
home and drove his work
truck to his job, where he
was ultimately detained.
The man also stole a fire
arm during the incident.

Man arrested for reckless
conduct in Commerce
A man was recently arrested for reckless conduct af
ter a report of a fight in Commerce.
Officers with the Commerce Police Department were
called to a Cedar Drive location on Aug. 26 for a report
of discharging of firearms on or near a public highway
or street. Few details are available in the report, other
than that police were called for a shooting and an active
fight.
The man was arrested the following day for the reck
less conduct warrant after officers received a tip about
his location.

home that had been vacant.

where officers were called about suspected drugs in a
store restroom.
•sale, manufacture, deliver or possession danger
ous drugs on Homer Rd. where one man was arrested
during a traffic stop. Officers found whippets (an inhal
ant drug) in the vehicle.
•damage to property on Homer St. where a vehicle
damaged a keypad box.
•information report on Grandview Ln. where a
woman reported lost luggage, but it was tracked with
an airtag. The person who had the luggage said they
grabbed the wrong bag by accident at the airport.

house he did not own. The
man said he and his broth
er did not receive a code for
the home’s lockbox and that
the scammer hung up on
his brother and blocked
him when he called about
the lockbox and passcode
to the house.

mentia told him he heard
voices in his house and
left the residence. The
man said he went with
his neighbor to the house
but saw no one inside the
home.
