The Commerce Police Department is investi gating numerous enter ing autos that occurred recently throughout the north side of the city. Woman arrested in Commerce in connection with diesel thefts A woman was recently ar rested for using fake credit cards to purchase diesel at a store in Commerce. Officer with the Commerce Police Department were called for the report of theft by deception and financial transaction card forgery on Hwy. 334. The store’s corporate di rector of loss prevention said they’d been investigating the fraud for a while and that the vehicle had been scamming multiple stores across the southeast. He noted thou sands of dollars worth of fuel had been stolen from various stores. The woman who was ar- thejail. OTHER INCIDENTS Other recent incidents re ported by the CPD included: •theft by conversion-felo ny on Old Colony Place. • theft by taking-motor vehicle on Lewis Cir. where someone reported a Toyota FJ Cruiser was stolen. • harassing communica tions on Old Maysville Rd. where someone reported a man sent harassing commu nications. •driving under the influ ence (DUI) on Jefferson St. where a woman was arrest ed during a traffic stop. The woman reportedly appeared intoxicated and was arrested rested had multiple dummy after a field sobriety test. Of- credit cards in her wallet, fleers found medication in the Several more dummy credit vehicle, along with unopened cards fell out of her shirt at alcohol. National FEMA and FCC plan nationwide alert test on Oct. 4 FEMA, in coordination with the Federal Communi cations Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) this fall. The national test will con sist of two portions, testing WEA and EAS capabilities. Both tests are scheduled to begin at approximately 2:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The WEA portion of the test will be directed to all consumer cell phones. This will be the third nationwide test, but the second test to all cellular devices. The test message will display in ei ther English or in Spanish, depending on the language settings of the wireless handset. The EAS portion of the test will be sent to radios and televisions. This will be the seventh nationwide EAS test. The purpose of the Oct. 4 test is to ensure that the sys tems continue to be effective means of warning the public about emergencies, partic ularly those on the national level. In case the Oct. 4 test is postponed due to wide spread severe weather or other significant events, the back-up testing date is Oct. 11. All wireless phones should receive the message only once. DETAILS • Beginning at approxi mately 2:20 p.m. ET, cell towers will broadcast the test for approximately 30 minutes. During this time, WEA-compatible wireless phones that are switched on, within range of an active cell tower, and whose wire less provider participates in WEA, should be capable of receiving the test message. • For consumers, the mes sage that appears on their phones will read: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is need ed.” • The EAS portion of the test is scheduled to last ap proximately one minute and will be conducted with the participation of radio and television broadcasters, ca ble systems, satellite radio and television providers and wireline video providers. The test message will be similar to the regular month ly EAS test messages with which the public is familiar. Jefferson PD Child burned on face by cigarette Jefferson police were re cently called for a report of child cruelty after a young juvenile was seen with a cig arette bum on their face. Officers with the Jeffer son Police Department were contacted by a Jefferson El ementary School employee about a student who had a bum mark on their face un der their eye. The juvenile reportedly told the psychol ogist and the officer that a family member burned them with a cigarette because they were angry. The report does not indi cate that an arrest was made. The man retrieved a trailer from the property. • three-vehicle wreck with one injury on 1-85. One person was transported to NGMC Braselton. • information report on Concord Rd. where a wom an reported possible harass ment by her ex-husband. •possession of marijuana on Washington St. where one person was arrested during a traffic stop after of ficers smelled marijuana in the vehicle. They later found the substance. The man also had a larger amount in his pocket. •lost/mislaid property on Hwy. 129 where someone lost a tag. • information on New Salem Church Rd. where a vehicle was damaged by debris. • theft by taking on Mag nolia Ave. No additional in formation was provided. •miscellaneous report on Dry Pond Rd. where a vehi cle rear-ended another. • information on Banks Rd. where a woman report ed a man and woman ha rassed her in a store, using racist language. She said the man also said he had a hand gun and should shoot her. •cruelty to children-third degree on Tugalo Dr. where a woman reported her ju venile’s father slapped the juvenile in the back of the head, causing the juvenile to hit their head and get a mild concussion. •aggravated assault and battery-family violence on Coopers Hawk Ln. where a man was arrested after al legedly striking a woman several times and strangling her. The woman had signifi cant visible injuries and said she went unconscious sever al times. The man was bel ligerent after being arrested. • theft by taking on Elberta Dr. where a woman reported a stolen cell phone. •lost/mislaid property on Hwy. 129 where someone lost a wallet. •agency assist on Hwy. 129 where officers assisted the Jackson County Sher iff’s Office after a fatal wreck (see JCSO incidents for further details). •information on Hwy. 11 where a woman reported a road rage incident. •possession of marijuana less than an ounce on Hwy. 129 where two people were cited during a traffic stop. Officers smelled marijuana in the vehicle and had seen a passenger throw something out of a window. • dispute on Magnolia Ave. where a tenant and landlord had a dispute. The tenant said his landlord had come onto the property and took a trailer. • information report on Persimmon Dr. where two people had an argument over property retrieval. •possession of marijuana less than an ounce on Ath ens St. where two people were cited during a traffic stop. Officers smelled mar ijuana in the vehicle and a passenger handed over the substance. • speeding and possession of marijuana less than an ounce on Damon Gause By pass where a man was cited during a traffic stop. Officers smelled marijuana and later found the substance. • information report on Michelle Dr. where a wom an reported she received a call from someone claiming to work for the JCSO, telling her she had a warrant and needed to pay a fine or turn herself in. •information at Jefferson High School where an ad ministrator reported a stu dent allegedly threatened to bring a pipe bomb to school. The student was suspended. •verbal dispute on Silver Bell Rd. where two people had a verbal argument. •two-vehicle wreck with one injury on Athens St. One person was transported to Piedmont Athens Region al Medical Center. • theft by taking on Storey Ln. where a woman reported her firearm was missing. An ambulance was called for an unresponsive male. •false imprisonment on Hidden Oaks Ln. where a man was arrested af ter someone reported an assault. Officers found a woman on the scene with visible injuries. She was treated by EMS. • criminal trespass and 911 hangup on Rock Forge Rd. where a woman report ed someone damaged her mailbox. •agency assist on Rock Forge Ln. where officers as sisted with a med call after a family member interfered with EMS because they didn’t want the patent to be taken to St. Mary’s. • theft by taking-motor vehicle and theft by taking on Nathaniel Dr. where a man reported a female took his car without permission. •agency assist on Hwy. 129 where officers assist ed the Georgia State Patrol with a traffic stop. • stalking and violation of a family violence order on Azalea Dr. where a woman reported her husband tried to contact her, despite a pro tection order. • agency assist on James- ton Place where officers assisted the Jefferson Po lice Department in locating someone believed to have been involved in a hit and run. The suspect reportedly stole a truck and crashed it in Jefferson.
