Commerce police
investigating numerous
entering auto reports
The Commerce Police
Department is investigat
ing numerous entering au
tos that occurred recently
throughout the north side of
the city.

“We strongly encourage
residents to lock their ve
hicles and not leave any
valuables inside them,” the
department said on social
media.
The Commerce Police

north side of the city.
Woman arrested in Commerce
in connection with diesel thefts
A woman was recently ar
rested for using fake credit
cards to purchase diesel at a
store in Commerce.
Officer with the Commerce
Police Department were
called for the report of theft
by deception and financial
transaction card forgery on
Hwy. 334.
The store’s corporate di
rector of loss prevention said
they’d been investigating the
fraud for a while and that the
vehicle had been scamming
multiple stores across the
southeast. He noted thou
sands of dollars worth of fuel
had been stolen from various
stores.

woman reportedly appeared

National
FEMA and FCC plan
nationwide alert test on Oct. 4
FEMA, in coordination
with the Federal Communi
cations Commission (FCC),
will conduct a nationwide
test of the Emergency Alert
System (EAS) and Wireless
Emergency Alerts (WEA)
this fall.
The national test will con
sist of two portions, testing
WEA and EAS capabilities.
Both tests are scheduled
to begin at approximately
2:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday,
Oct. 4.
The WEA portion of the
test will be directed to all
consumer cell phones. This
will be the third nationwide
test, but the second test to
all cellular devices. The test
message will display in ei
ther English or in Spanish,
depending on the language
settings of the wireless
handset.
The EAS portion of the
test will be sent to radios
and televisions. This will be
the seventh nationwide EAS
test.
The purpose of the Oct. 4
test is to ensure that the sys
tems continue to be effective
means of warning the public
about emergencies, partic
ularly those on the national
level.
In case the Oct. 4 test
is postponed due to wide
spread severe weather or
other significant events, the
back-up testing date is Oct.
11.
All wireless phones
should receive the message
only once.
DETAILS
• Beginning at approxi
mately 2:20 p.m. ET, cell
towers will broadcast the
test for approximately 30
minutes. During this time,
WEA-compatible wireless
phones that are switched
on, within range of an active
cell tower, and whose wire
less provider participates in
WEA, should be capable of
receiving the test message.
• For consumers, the mes
sage that appears on their
phones will read: “THIS
IS A TEST of the National
Wireless Emergency Alert
System. No action is need
ed.”
• The EAS portion of the
test is scheduled to last ap
proximately one minute and
will be conducted with the
participation of radio and
television broadcasters, ca
ble systems, satellite radio
and television providers and
wireline video providers.
The test message will be
similar to the regular month
ly EAS test messages with
which the public is familiar.
Jefferson PD
Child burned on face by cigarette
Jefferson police were re
cently called for a report of
child cruelty after a young
juvenile was seen with a cig
arette bum on their face.
Officers with the Jeffer
son Police Department were
contacted by a Jefferson El
ementary School employee
about a student who had a
bum mark on their face un
der their eye. The juvenile
reportedly told the psychol
ogist and the officer that a
family member burned them
with a cigarette because they
were angry.
The report does not indi
cate that an arrest was made.

ment by her ex-husband.
•possession of marijuana
on Washington St. where
one person was arrested
during a traffic stop after of
ficers smelled marijuana in
the vehicle. They later found
the substance. The man also
had a larger amount in his
pocket.

lost a tag.

a vehicle was damaged by
debris.

gun and should shoot her.

a woman reported her ju
venile’s father slapped the
juvenile in the back of the
head, causing the juvenile to
hit their head and get a mild
concussion.

battery-family violence on
Coopers Hawk Ln. where
a man was arrested after al
legedly striking a woman
several times and strangling
her. The woman had signifi
cant visible injuries and said
she went unconscious sever
al times. The man was bel
ligerent after being arrested.

a stolen cell phone.

lost a wallet.

come onto the property and
