County.
EJCHS football team 4-0 after
downing Franklin County
East Jackson used an effi
cient passing attack from soph
omore quarterback Drew Rich
ardson, an aggressive rushing
attack from junior Quay Hill
and a stingy defense to blow
past Franklin County 53-10 on
Friday night.
East Jackson improved to
4-0 on the season, only the sec
ond such start in school-history.
The Eagles were 4-0 in 2009.
East Jackson will visit John
son (1-3) Friday night, the final
non-region game of the season
for the Eagles. East Jackson
opens region play on Sept. 29
at Banks County, which is cur
rently undefeated.
Richardson completed 12 of
18 passes for 227 yards with
three touchdowns in Friday’s
win. Two of the touchdowns
went to fellow sophomore
Branturan Callahan while se
nior Talan Jackson hauled in
the other score. Sophomore
Braxton Goolsby had four
catches for a team-high 116
yards.
Hill led East Jackson with
154 yards rushing on 20 car
ries, averaging 7.7 yards per
carry. He also scored three
rushing touchdowns. Sopho
more Jamarion Parks added a
rushing touchdown, as well.
East Jackson is averaging
37.7 points per game this sea
son, and is allowing just 9.5
points per game, a stingy de
fensive attack that has bothered
opposing offensive units.
The East Jackson defense
was again a problem for Frank
lin County. The Eagles held
the Lions to just 162 yards of
offense, including just 55 yards
passing. Nate Heiss forced an
interception for the Eagles’ de
fense.

Dragons
teams 2-3-4 in
state rankings
Athletic success is not uncommon for the
Jefferson Dragons whose various sports
teams have claimed a lot of state titles over
the years.
That success is again on display at the
mid-season for fall sports with three of its
fall sports teams ranked in the top 5 of Class
5A competition, according to MaxPrep rank
ings.
The Jefferson softball team is ranked #4 in
Class 5A with a record of 23-3 so far in the

Lady Tigers
win key
region game
The Commerce Lady Tigers softball team
won a key region contest last week by downing
Elbert County 9-8.
The Tigers are 5-10 overall for the season,
but 4-0 in region play. Elbert County is the Ti
gers’ main competition in the region and last
week’s victory gives the Lady Tigers an edge
heading into the final leg of regular season play.
The Tigers were slated to play a tough White
County in non-region play on Sept. 18.
Next week, the Tigers will face Rabun Coun
ty on Sept. 26 for another region matchup fol
lowed by a region game against Athens Chris
tian on Sept. 28.
