The Jackson County vol
leyball team suffered only
its second defeat of the
season, falling in a five-set
match Tuesday (Sept. 12) at
North Forsyth.
In a rematch of last year’s
Region 8-AAAAAA finals,
the Panthers (20-2, 3-1 Re
gion 8-AAAAAA) lost to
the Raiders 3-2 (25-17, 23-
25, 16-25, 25-19, 8-15) in a
back-and-forth contest.
Paisley Gillespie totaled
17 kills and 17 digs in the
loss, while Ruthie Fowler
recorded a team-high 20
kills. Sydney McCutcheon
finished with 36 assists and
19 digs, and Ava Lesniak
added 17 digs.
North Forsyth (17-8) im
proved to 5-0 in Region
8-AAAAAA play with the
win.
Jackson County travels
to Mill Creek (12-11) on
Thursday (5 p.m.).

JHS cross country has strong showing at home event
The Jefferson High School cross
country teams had a strong show
ing at their recent invitational held
at Lamar Murphy Park.
The JHS girls finished first out of
six teams and 51 runners while the
Dragon boys finished second out of
nine teams and 76 runners.
For the boys, Ben Davis finished
first for the fourth consecutive race
this season.
Top finishers for the Lady Drag
ons were:
Hannah Schroeder, 3rd; Lily Jan-
ning 4th; Kira Stevens, 7th; Kate
James, 9th; Lily Gaddy, 10th; Lau
ren Halley, 12th; and Sasha Thom
ason, 14th.
Top finishers for the JHS boys
were:
Ben Davis, 1st; Austin Click, 6th;
Garrison Lee, 8th; C.J. Leffords,
14th; Cameron Kazienko, 16th;
Finn Wakeman, 23rd; Trey Ad
kins, 24th; Dylan Johns, 26th; Ben
Nunnally, 27th; and Ryan Schmidt,
29th.
