EJCHS softball team
claims a pair of wins
East Jackson’s softball
team posted a 2-1 record
last week, earning blowout
wins over Gainesville and
Cedar Shoals to improve to
7-9 on the season.
East Jackson were to vis
it Union County on Tues
day, Sept. 26, and will visit
Providence Christian Acad
emy on Tuesday, Oct. 3. The
Lady Eagles conclude the
regular season with a pair
of home matchups against
Union County. (Oct. 5) and
Banks County (Oct. 10).
The Lady Eagles defeated
Gainesville 16-8 last Mon
day before taking down
Cedar Shoals 18-3 last
Wednesday.
In the win against Gaines
ville, Anna McKinney was
2-for-4, while Avery Pull
iam was 4-for-4. Autumn
Hurndon was l-for-3 with a
walk and earned the win in
the pitching circle.
Against Cedar Shoals,
McKinney led the way with
multiple hits in the game,
while Shaelyn Pyle reached
back by a hit-by-pitch, a
walk and a hit. Ashley Rive
ra reached base twice, while
Kaley LeCroy recorded a
double. Hurndon and Mak
enzie Wilson each pitched
inside the circle for the
Lady Eagles.
“I’m proud of the prog
ress that we are making
this season,” East Jack-
son coach Faith Grooms
said. “Our girls have really
bought in and are finally
getting a mentality to where
they want to get better each
day. Our entire program,
from middle school to high
school, is getting better each
day. It always feels good to
win and this group deserves
it.”

JCHS cross country
girls take third at
Apalachee meet
Jackson County High
School distance runner
Erin O’Brien raced to an
eight-place finish Satur
day (Sept. 23) with a time
of 21:20.65 to lead the
girls’ cross country team
to a third-place showing at
Apalachee. Seventeen girls
teams competed.
Kendall Goetzman
(20th, 22:10.19), Loralai
Eager (25th, 22:20.68),
Morgan Eldridge (32nd,
22:51.56) and Kamryn
Shaw-Foreman (53rd,
24:13.75) rounded out the
girls’ squad’s top five.
Meanwhile, the boys’
squad finished 16th out of
24 teams in its race. Fin
ishing in the Panthers’ top
five were Alex Southivong
(68th, 19:02.35), Adam
Thomas (78th, 19:13.47),
Brayden Damico (84th,
19:19.62), Gavin How
land (96th, 19:36.28) and
Silas Gillespie (103rd,
19:46.46).

Dragons head to Winder-Barrow after downing Clarke Central

team is getting ready for
its second region match
up this week as it travels
to Winder-Barrow.
Last week, the 5-0
Dragons downed #7
ranked Clarke Central
22-14 in its first 5A re
gion contest of the sea
son.
The Dragons had a
big first quarter with a
44-yard pass from quar
terback Gavin Markey
to running back Sammy
Brown for the score.
Brown also caught a
24-yard pass early in
the game that set up a
19-yard touchdown pass
from Markey to Christo
pher Law.

EJCHS Volleyball
Lady Eagles looking to make region run
The East Jackson High School
volleyball team is hoping to make a
strong ran over the next week to climb
to the top of the region standing.
The Lady Eagles are 13-11 overall
and 1-3 in region play. The Eagles
dropped a region match to Athens
Academy last week and a non-region
contest to Loganville.
This week, East Jackson was to
face region-leader Providence Chris
tian Academy Tues. night along with
a match against Fellowship Christian,
also a region contest.
On Thursday, the Lady Eagles meet
Union County and Athens Academy
at home, then close out regular sea
son competition next Tuesday against
Fellowship Christian and Union
County. All matches are region con
tests.
Region 8 of Class 2A is currently
led by Banks County (3-1) and Provi
dence Christian (3-1).
