JHS volleyball team set for region run
The 3rd-ranked Lady
Dragons volleyball team is
set to make a run for a re
gion championship in the
coming week.
The Dragons will com
plete regular season play
with four key region match
es against Clarke Central
and Loganville on Sept. 27
and Flowery Branch and
Winder-Barrow on Sept. 28.
The Lady Dragons are
now 25-4 overall and 2-0 in
region play.
Last week, the team won a
key region contest 2-1 over
Hart County (22-4). The
Dragons also rolled over
Prince Avenue Christian 3-0
on Sept. 20, but dropped a
non-region game to Chesta-
tee 2-1 on Sept. 21.

is ranked #8 in hitting per
centage at .323, and 8th in

Jolie Guenther is ranked

14th in assists at 208 and
11th in serving aces with 56.
Gertie Nazaroff is ranked
13 th in digs with 202.

Panthers win two of three last week
The Jackson County Panthers took two of
three region softball contests last week as
the team is now 9-6 on the year and 5-3 in
8-AAAAAA play.
The Panthers defeated Shiloh 1 -0 and 8-4
in a Sept. 19 home doubleheader and lost to
Apalachee 2-0 Sept. 21 on the road.
Jackson County’s Maegan Brownlee
pitched a complete game shutout in Game 1
against Shiloh, fueled by 11 strikeouts while
scattering just four hits. Kylen Hewell scored
the game’s lone mn in the bottom of the third
inning, coming across the plate following a
Shiloh wild pitch.
In Game 2, Jackson County recorded sev
en hits, three from Raeghan Thompson, who
also scored two runs and drove in another.
Emery Schiffman, Lauren Glander, Brown
lee and Ryleigh O’Brien also scored runs.
Two days later, the team was limited to two
hits in its loss to second-place Apalachee.
Glander went 1 -for-2 with a double.
Brownlee worked six innings in the circle,
allowing four hits.
Jackson County entered action this week
sitting in third-place in 8-AAAAAA. The
team was slated to host Habersham Central
Tuesday (Sept. 26) for a home doublehead
er. It will travel to Gainesville today (Sept.
27) for a doubleheader against the Red Ele
phants. The schedule continues Oct. 3 with
a road double header against region-leading
North Forsyth before a single home game
with Gainesville on Oct. 5.
NOTES: The team hosted a Pink Out
Night against Shiloh, honoring individuals
who have fought or are currently fighting
cancer.
