Week of October 1-7 Broadus Eugene “Gene” Nichols LULA— Broadus Eugene “Gene” Nichols, 75, Lula, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 24, 2023, following a sudden illness. Mr. Nichols was bom on July 22, 1948, in Habersham County to the late Henry Grady Nichols and Christine Miles Nichols. In addi tion to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, S.T. “Nick” Nichols, James Ray Nichols, Barbara Poole, Richard Nichols, Wayne Nichols, Virgin ia Evans, Martha Nichols and Faye Nichols. Gene was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, where he was a dedicated member of the choir and his Sunday School class. In his early years, Gene enjoyed pitching horseshoes and lat er enjoyed working in his yard. Most of all, Gene loved to spend time with his family. Survivors include his loving wife of almost 53 years, Mavis Sheridan Nichols, Lula; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Chad Payne, Adel; grandson, Austin Payne, Adel; brother, David Nichols, Com merce; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as close family friends. Funeral service: Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Bart McMillan and Chad Payne of ficiating. Linda was bom in Athens on August 13, 1946, and raised by her mother, Lucille West. Linda loved spending time with her family, espe cially on vacations to the beach and Disney World. She never missed an important family event or gathering. She loved her kids and grandkids “a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck”. Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Lu cille West; and brother, Kenneth West. She is survived by her children, Teresa Cook (Danny), Nicholson, and Valerie Boone; grandchil dren, Danielle, Clint, Cody, Sierra and Summer; and great-grandchildren, Christian, Madison, Ella, Hydi, Kayleigh, Dalton, Kaydence, Myles, Lana, Layne and Rylee.
