The commissioners’ denial came after the Jackson Coun ty Planning Commission’s lengthy Oct. 24 public hear ing, during which it voted 3 -0 to recommend rej ection. Accident continued from lA Water authority JCWSA decreases service theft fees By Katelyn Pontzer The Jackson County Water and Sewage Authority unanimous ly voted recently for all service theft charges to be reset after an initial period of five years. The JCWSA board also created new divisions of theft charges — unauthorized/improper installation and subsequent offens es. This will be applied when a hydrant meter is rented from JCSWA yet another authority’s hydrant is used. The initial fee is currently at $2,500 and subsequent fees will be $5,000. This is only half of the charge of the illegal connection fee because “the threat to public health is lessened.” Events continued from lA • Santa in Hosehton, Dec. 7 — Die Hoschton Women’s Civic Club will host Santa Claus on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 10 a.m. on City Square St. in Hoschton. Santa will arrive by fire truck and visit with children until noon. “Come get a free photo, gift bag and gift,” said organizers from the Hoschton Women’s Civic Club, who sponsor this event annually. JEFFERSON • Shop by Candlelight, Dec. 6 — On Dec. 6, Jefferson will host “Shop by Candlelight,” from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Downtown businesses are encouraged to stay open late for holiday shoppers. Businesses wishing to participate should provide their hours so they can be included in event promotions. •Christmas parade, Dec. 7 — Jefferson’s annual Christ mas Parade will be held on Dec. 7, with activities running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hie parade itself will begin at 11 a.m. Local businesses, community groups, and residents are encouraged to participate and show off their holiday spirit. • Pop-up Market, Dec. 20 —A Pop-Up Market will be held in Jefferson on Dec. 20 along College Street. NICHOLSON • Tree lighting event, Dec. 10—Hie City of Nicholson invites everyone to the annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. In addition to the tree lighting, the event will feature craft and food vendors, a photo booth, music, DIY ornament-making, cookie decorating, marshmallow roasting and more. A female was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased. The female’s name has not been released.
