Answer.
If being engaged in a shindy, or a ront,
John Due should a piece from Dick Roe’s
trowsers tear out
Uis suit would be for damages as Black*

Trespass, quart clausum fregit ; for that
he broke his (close) clothes.

The Most Beautiful Hand. —Two char
ming women were discussing one day on
what it was that constituted beauty in the
hand. They differed in opinion as much
as in tho shape of the beautiful member
whoge merits they were discussing. A
gentleman friend presented himself, and
by common consent, the question was re
ferred to him. It was a delicate matter.
He thought of Paris aud the threo god
desses. Glancing from one to the other of
the beautiful white hands presented to him
which, by the way he had the cunning to
hold for some time in his own foi the pur
pose of examining. he replied at last,'l
give it up, tho question is too hard for mo ;
but ask the poor and tboy will tell you
that the most beautiful hand in tho world
is the hand which gives.
Sbmsiblk Advice.—ls you would bo
liappy, when among good men open your
oars; when among bad, shut them. And
as the throat has a muscular arrangement,
by which it takes care of the air-passages
ofitfl own accord, so the ears should be
trained to an automatic dullness of hearing?
It is not worth while to hear what your
servants say when they are angry’; what
your children say after they have slammed
tbedoor; what a beggar says whom you
have rejected from your door; what
your ueighbors say about your children;
what your rivnls say about your business,
or your dress.
Do Right.—A man that has a soul
worth a sixpence must havo enemies. It
_is utterly impossible-for tho best man to
please the whole world, and the sooner
this is understood and a position taken in
the view of this fact, the better. Do right
though you have enemies. You cannot
escape them by doing wrong, and it is little
gaiu to barter away your honor and man
hood and divest yourself of moral courage
to gain what? Nothing. Better abide by
the truth—frown down all opposition, and
Tejoice in the feoling which must inspire a
free and independent man.
Anecdnteof Methuselah's Disregard
of Life.—lt is written iu a quaint old
Jewish manuscript now in tho British Mu
seum, that tho oldest, of mankind Methu
selah, did not live as long as he might
have done. The writer says that God
promisod him in a dream that if he would
rise up and build him a house his life should
be prolonged five hundred years. But he
replied that it was scarcely worth while to
build a house for so short a period, and he
died before he was a thousand years old.
That ‘That.' —ln thirty-one words, how
many thats can bogiamrnatically inserted ?
Answer, fourteen. He said, that that that
that mau said, was not that that that ono
should say ; but that that that that man
said, was that that that man should not say.
That reminds us of the following says and
saids: Mr. 8.. did you say, or did you not
say, what I said you said T becanes C.
said you said you never did say what I
said you said. Now-, if you did say that
you did not sav what I said you said, then
what did von soy ?
.4 Happy Fireside. —Home is the res
idence, not merely of the body, but of the
heart; it is a place for the affections to un
fold and develope themselves ; for children
to love to learn, and play in ; for husband
and wife to toil smilingly together, and
make life a blessing. Tho object of all
ambition should be to bo happy at home ;
if we were not happy there, we cannot bo
happy elsew here.—lt is the best proof of
the virtues of a family circle to see a happy
fireude.
Exclusive Humanitv.—The ties of
family and of country wero never intend
ed to circumscribe the soul. Mad is con
nected at birth, with a few beings, that the
spirit of humanity may be called forth by
tueit tenderness; and, whenever domestic
or national attachments become exclusive,
engrossing, clannish, so as to shut out the
general claims of the human race, the high
est end of Providence is frustrated and
home, iustead of being” the nursery, be
comes the grave of the heart.
Georgia Anow Root —We find in the
Philadelphia papers an advertisement of
•Pure Georgia Arrow Root,’ manufactured
by Col. Hallowes, of St Mary’s, in this
State. Dr. Jackson, of the Univesity of
Pennsylvania, pronounces it ‘superior to
any Bermuda or other arrow root’ he has
seen. Dr. James R. Chilton, a practical
chemist, declares it to be, in every re
spect, .fully equal to the best quality of
arrow root obtained from Beimuda.’
Wife.—This good old Saxon word {wife
s after all, the dearest and most sacred
word in the whole vocabulary of love.—
Around it clusters all that is most beautiful
chaste, and permanent in the tender passion.
Into whatever forbidden paths the heart of
man wander, still it must return, at last, to
the hallowed name of wife for consolation
and rest. Any other relation between
the sexes, however alluring to the ima
gination, invariably ends in wretchedness,
in shame and degradation.

Fever and Ague is not nlonc the consequence of
the miasmatic poison. X great variety of disorders
arise from its irritation, among which are Neuralgia,

Earache, Catarrh, Asthma, Palpitation, Painful Af

Colic, Paralysis, and Derangement of the Stomach,
all of which] when originating in this cause, put on
the intermittent type, or become periodical. This
“ Cure ” expels the poison from the blood, and con

protection to immigrants, and persons travelling or
temporarily residing in the malarious districts. If
taken occasionally, or daily, while exposed to the
infection, that will be excreted from tho system, nnd
cannot accumulate in sufficient quantity to ripen into
disease. Hence it is even more valuable for protec

mittents, if they avail themselves of the protection
this remedy affords.
