Poison* in Liquors. —The extensive i
adulteration of liqnors offered in the mar
ket as pure, and the introduction of poi
sonous ingredients into those which are 1
pronounced healthful, may well excite i
alarm, and ‘ call for Hie attention of our ’
Legislature. Way there should beso 1
much brain fever, delirium tremens, and ;
so much sudden deaths amonjg our young j
men who indulge at the bar, cannot be ex- j
plained upon any common principles. An ,
expert chemist of this city bought of an
importer aJboUle of what was called gen-!
nine champagne. An analynation proved j
it to contain one quarter of an ounce of
sugar of lead.
The same gentleman analyzed sixteen
samples of wines—Port, Sherry, and Ma
deriii—in which not oue drop of juice of
the grape was found. The base ot the
Port wine was diluted sulphuric acid, col-
ored with elderbury juice, with alum, su
gar, and neutral spirits The basis of the
Sherry wine was a pale malt, sulphuric
acid from bitter almonds, with a per cent
age of alcoholic spirits from brandy. The
Maderia wine was a decoction of hops, sul
phuric acid, honey, Jamaica spirits. —A. 1

“Sure,” said Patrick, rubbing his j
head-with delight at the piospcct of a
presentfrom his employer, “I always mane
to do my duty.”
“I believe you,” replied his employer;
•‘and therefore I shall make you a present
of all you have stolen from me during the
year.”
“Thank your honor,” replied Pat; “and
may all your friends and acquaintances
treat you as liberally !”
LTA remarkable case of poisoning has j
occurred at Tralee, Ireland. A woman
picked up some mussels from the basin ot
the canal, and distributed them among her
neighbors. A few hours after having eaten
of them, twenty-one persons were seized
with sickness and other symptoms of hav
ing been poisoned. Os these, three (chil
dren) are said to have died, while several
•others are roported as being in a critical
state. The mussels, it is supposed, had
grown on the copper bottom ot some ves
sel, and had thus become impregenated
with poisonous matter.
Kew York and tin Prince of Wales. —
ATe, are glad to see that the merchants of
New York have taken the matter of the
entertainment of Lord Renfrew into their
own bands, ami the country is not to be
scandalized by 1110- antics of their city
council in this business. A banquet is to
he tendered the Prince at the Academy of
Music, at which (fen. Scott is to preside,
and the President, bis Cabinet, and many
eminent citizens of the country are to be
invited. The entertainment is to bo elab
orated in -every respect with whatever
magnificence the abundant resources of
the Kew York mercantile community can
furnish.— Exchange.

sid.ir heat on Wet soil, and rises with the Watery Vapor
from it. White the sun is tielow the horizon this va-
I>or lingers near the earili’s surface, end the vims
is taken with it through the lungs into the Woctf.
There it acts as an irritating poison on the Irttenfcil
viscera and excreting organs of life laxly, The liver
iteromes torpid end fails to secrete not only this virus,
hut also tire bile from the Mood. Both the virus aud
the Idle accumulate in the circulation, and produce
violent constitutional disorder. The spleen, the kid
neys, aud the stomach sympathize with the liver, nnd
Itecome disordered also. Finally, tlc instinct of ottr
organism, ns if in nil attempt to expel the noxions
infusion, concentrates the whole blood of tite laxly
in tlic Internal cxcrctorics to force them to cast It out.
Tlic Mood leaves the surface, and rushes to the cen
tral organs with congestive'violence. This is the
Chill, lint in this effort it fails. Then the Fever
follows, in which the blood Jenves the central organs
aud rushes to t lie surface, as if in another effort to ex
pel tlic irritating poison through the other great ex
cretory—the skin. In this nlso il fails, and tlio sys
tem abandons the attempt exhausted, waiting for tho
recoverv of strength to repeat tlie hopeless effort
another due. These arc the fits or paroxysms of Fe
ver ASD Aotje. Such constitutional disorder Will
of course undermine the health if It fe not removed-
We have labored to find, and have found, an an

Ayer’s Ague Cure*
which neutralizes this mnlarions poison in ffcij'lllood,.
and stimulates the liver to expel it fimn fan’ Body.-
As it should, so it does cure this afflictive dtsotder
witli perfect certainty. And it docs mote, Os firatfcff
does what is of more service to those subject to tut 6?
Infection. If taken in season it expels it front the sys
tem as it is absorbed, nnd thus keeps those wild UW
it free from its attacks; keeps tlic system in healC
although expo soil to the disease. Consequently it not
only cures, hut protects from, the great variety of af
fections which are induced by this malignant influ
ence, such as Remittent Fever, Chill Fever, Dumb, or
Masked Ague, Periodical Headache, or Bilious Head
ache, Bilious Fevers, Neuralgia, Rheumatism, Gout,
Blindness, Toothache, Karaclic, Catarrh, Asthma,
Palpitations, Painful Affections of the Spleen, Hys
terics, Colie, Paralysis, ami Painful Affections of the
Stomach and Bowels, all of which, when arising from
this cause, will he found to assume more or less tho
intermittent type. This “Aol’k Cone” removos tho
cause of these derangements, and cures the disease.
This it accomplishes by stimulating the cxcretorles
to expel the virus from the system; and theseorguns
by degrees liecomc habited to do tills their wflec of
their own accord. Hence arises what wc term accii - ■
motion. Time may accomplish the same end, but
often life is not long enough, or is sacrificed in tho
attempt, while this “Ague Cure” does It at once,
and with safety. We have great reason tobolioverthis
j. :l surer as well as safer remedy for tho whole class
of diseases vvhieli are caused by the miasmatic infec
tion, than any other which lias been discovered; and
it has still another important advantage to tlie putv
!i which is, that Bis cheap as well as good.
