Young ladies, when you visit Augusta,

anything to look st everything there, or
“thereabouts.”
I was requested to say, that this was a
young men’s Store, and that all marriage
“ble ladies, without regard to age, were iu
vited to coll, and if they could not be suited
with the diy goods, they might Sell them
selves. All the gentlemen are good look

Ramsay & Labaw.
It has become fashionable for Editors to
puff every body that favors them with an
advertisement. Whether it is rigtht for
the fraternity thus to do, is a question we
will not undertake to answer ; but we do
say it is not wrong to give that meed of
priasc which is known personally by us
to be due a man, or men. wbeu favors bnve
been confercd by them on us; therefore
if wo say aught by way of commendation
of either of the above named gentlemen,
pardon us, as wo will say nothing but what
we know, or beleive to be, strictly true.
Mr. Augustus Ramsay, one of the part
ners of the above firm, is one of the nicest
men we have ever met; and he is cortain
ly one of the most obliging, and polite men,
in his store, and at bis table, that we have
ever known. He is a man of excellent
taste, and takes great pleasure to display
it with bis customers. Ho is one of the
most industrious men that we have ever seen
behind aeouitcr, and if you go iit to bis
store 110 will be very sure to sell you some
thing before .you go out.
The clothing in this house, Mr. R. says,
were all manufactured expressly for it,
and if be has not wbat anybody may want
in bis line, he can furnish them according
to order in a much shorter time, ana for less
money than most any clothing store in the
South. We feel that any one
desiring to purchase ready-made clothing,
in Augusta, cannot do better elsewhere,
neither in cheapness, nor in the quality of
goods, than at Ramsay Sf Labaw’s.
See their Card in another column,

We call the attention of our readers to
the Card of this gentleman to be found in

We never saw a move beautiful room
where drugs were sold, and we have seen
some that we thought quite pretty, than
these gentleman have in the cty of Augus

the arrangement of everything in this
magnificent establish ; if you want to buy
drugs in Augusta, read their advertisement
in this issue, and give them a call.

Rev. A • A. Lipscombe. D. D. —This
eminent gentleman says the Auburn Sketch

the University ot Georgia. In this case,
what is Alabama’s loss, is Georgia’s gain.
We can’t, help being sorry that he is going.
We thought to have kept him in our State..
It is unexpected. We have had time to
fully realize it. We positively wish the Dr.
had not gone. Tbe Georgians mny well
be proud of tlieir Chancellor. He will
adorn the position, and add largely to the
reputation of the Institution. Our bles
sings go with him, though with a heavy
heart.

Physical Training.—Won to the eJasa

training!—look at the manners, the mor

keeping classes, if you wish to see the ef
fects ot utterly neglecting the physical
development of man ; of fancying that all
the muscular activity lie requires under
the sun, is to be able to stand behind a
counter, or sit <>u a desk stool without
tumbling off. Be sure, that ever riuee tbe
days of the Persians of old, effeminacy, if

great deal cf the >uw setisn.*l:tT, the con

now among the middle classes, and from
which the navigator, the engineer, the miner
and the sailor are comparatively free.—

Saved.
Chicago, Sept. B.—The steamer Lady
Elgin was run into by aschooner of Wauke
gau. at half past 2 o’clock this morning,
and sunk in twenty minutes, in three hun
dred feet water.
Three hundred and fifty or four hundred
people were on board, including several
military and fire companies. Col. Lunis
den, of tbe New Orleans Picayune, and
family, are supposed to be lost.
Only seventeen are known to be saved.
The schooner was sailing at 11 miles per
hour.
Second Dispatch.
Further Particulars—Statement of the
Clerk.
Chicago, Sept. 9.—Left Chicago at 11,-
30 a. m. for Lake Superior. At 2,30 in the
morning the schooner Augusta, of. Oswego
colidcd with the Elgin when about 10
miles from shore. She struck the steamer
mid-ships tbe gangway ou, tbe larboard
side. The two vessels separated instantly
—the Argus drifting by in the darkness.
At the moment ot collision, music and
dancing were going on in the cabin of the
Elgin. Iu an instant after the crasli all
was still, and in half an hour the steamer
sank. 1 passed through the cabins, aua
found tbe ladies pnlu but silent. Not a
cry nor a shriek was heard No sound but
the rush of steam and the surge of a heavy
sea. Whether the passengers were not
fully aware of their danger, or whether
their appallingsituatior.made them speech
less, 1 cannot tell. A boat was loweied at
once with tho design of going round upon
the starboard side to exautii e the leak.—
There being but ono oat to tbe boat it be
came unmanagnlde and quickly drifted
away, and wo were thrown upon the beach
at Wir.ctka.

Dr. Perry's Vermifuge or “Dead shot”
for Worms. —A highly valuable prepara
tion, capable from the promtitude of its
actioD, of olearing the system in a few
hours of every worm. The origin, devel
opment, and support of worms in tbe hu
man system are to be attributed to a de
praved and debilitated condition of the
stomach and bowels where the digestion
is unimpaired, and tbe general powers of
the system in a healthy state, they can
find no sustenance. This Vermifuge will
not only destroy worms, but completely
remove all unhealthy secretious from the
stomach and bowels. It is perfectly safe
to take and not unpleasant to the taste.

by JII Wood, and Druggists generally.
Strumous or Scrofulous affections are
the curse, the blight, the potatoes rot of
mankind. They are vile and filthy as well
as fatal. They arise from contamination
and impurity of the blood, and are to be
seen all around us everywhere. One quar
ter of all we meet are tainted with them,
and one quartei of these die of them; die
foolishly too, because they aro cnrable.
Ayer’s Sarsaparilla cleanses out-the Scrofu
lous corruption front tbe blood, renders it
pure and healthy, and effectually exputges
the foul contamination from the system,
No longer groan under your Scoifulous
disorders, since the irresistable Ayer has
provided his masterly combination of cura
tive virtues that he calls Sarsaparilla.—

Judson’s Mountain Herb PHI*.
llow strange and Wonderful it oiten seems
to us that a medicine composed of simple moun
tain herbs and roots, should so certainly search
out and cure disease. How surprising tha( the
Indians should know and preserve so long and
well a secret that has escaped the search of the
greatest physicians the world has ever seen.—
True, the ancient inhabitants of J/ixico were
a strange race, found l.y the Spaniards living
in large cities, and allowing for their strange
customs and religion as well civilized as their
conquerors. It? the words of a writer of some
celebrity, “They hare perished r rom the earth,
their cities are gigantic piles of ruins, their
Lings aud Prir.ccs so might in their life, are
forgotten ; their ruins and their medicine are
alone left.” The united testimony of all intel
ligent persons is, that Judson's Mountain Herb

world in curing disease.
