lengthened interview with this eminent
Georgian, thin incomparable statesman. It

secure, since 1850, when, with prophetic
vision, he saw the coming anarchy, and,

Mr Stephens has well grounded anticipa
tions of a final reaction against fanaticism
and absolutism. lie does not believe that
the Mountain Party can rule always against
the sterling common sense of the country’s
intellect. He very properly conceives thni,
when once brought together in rational dis
cussion, there will be a mighty return to
olden principles, A hiding that time, it he
boves the South to be temperate and pos
•eased of the wisdom that comes flout mod
