been broken down, skillful artisans and la

States. The appearano' of immigrants and
the increaso of population will create a de

New York Coinin' l ™ al Vdvertiser.
“Brick” Pomeroy, it the New
York Democrat , comes out for repUN
tliation pure ami simple. He says:
Two years since not one hundred
prominent men in the land—not five
politicians —dared mention repudia
tion of the national debt, or, more
properly speaking, national swindle.
To-day its advocates are millions,
and in less than two years from to
day repudiation will be a fixed, estab
lished', demonstrated faet. And the
bonds now held by the billions in the
pockets, safes and vaults of those who
have long since received more than
they paid for them’, will be classed
with tho continental money—num
berctl with the things that were —ev
idences of an old indebtedness, wiped
out by that spirit of progress which
marks the genius of tbe American
peopl?.
Repudiation will come because the
people are being driven into it. Tho
national debt will be repudiated, be
cause tbe people are unable to pay.
Every day the debt grows larger, ev
ery day our ability to pay is less. —
Said a wise man, once, “And this,
too, shall pass away,” Ahd tbe nit
riorml debt sho tld pass away. Not
by payment, but by repudiation. And
every man who urges or advocates
this, the only honest, just, andright
eotft relief lYom cruel financial op
pression, is a patriot, a lover of his
country, and a defender of the inter
ests of the people, who will deserve
and receive tho lasting gratitude of
every honest man, every laboring man'
in tbe country.

lIIS SITUATION.
Georgia is represented in one
branch of Congress, and refused rep
rlsentition in tho other. One branch
c#r iifes to her loyalty, the other de
c ines to certify to nny such thing.—
I pr Senators tire denied their scats
o i tho ground that, iiftr people ar
si H <>i posed to the laws, anti addic
ted generally to disorder. A com
unttee procures testimony on whut"
points it raises, to suit its o\yn
w }Us. Georgia is in' the hands of a
ptytisan cmirmitteo in Congress. It
is pretended thdt she is riot vet in a
composed state of feeling. The real
fact is, however, that she will not en
gage in advance to do the will of die
party in power. Never was there
suclt universal devotion to the other
as now. The people have eschewed po!-
itics, and gone to work. Tho lead-ers
in Congress will not save themselves.
A few whisky-bred disturbances may
Occur in distant localities, which i.«
terested adventurers pick up, and res
peat to their principals at Washing
ton, representing that all is anarchy
and rioting throughout the Stufe;
but no such result nf industry, which
demands a state of peace ami order,
coultl be put on record if any consid
erable part of this eager testimony
were based upon truth. This year,
the population is much better off than
it was last year ; and another year
will sec a greater improvement titan
ever.
The blessings ol up and down ne
gro rule, howover, are clearly visible
in Arkansas. Gov. Clayton sends
his black militia through the State ;
and tho population abandon their
homes ami acres, leaving miles on
miles of unpicked cotton in tho fields,
and giving over the State to a reign
if consternation. It is such a rule
ns this which Radicalism would inflict
on Georgia ; and, if passible, on Vir
ginia. It is certain death to indus
try us the abandoned cotton-fields of
Arkansas testify to-day. And this
is really the test for Congress and
the country.to abide by. It is nb
rmrA e* the limit of preposieiroo "»»'©««,
to keep Stages out of their constitu
tional rights on the plea'of insubordi
nation and the prevalence of civil
commotion. When their populations
are at work so freaccauty and effect
ively that the result ot their labor
begins to be felt decisively on the
foreign trade relations of the entire
c mntry. As we said before, wo
ought to hear the last of this mock
ery of truth at once. That string
has bet>n pulled till it is pulled off.—
Let tho facts of the situtiou have a
hearing, and tbe Southern people will
best be left to reconstruct themselves.
—Bos:« i Post.
Sefialor Pratt.— Senator-elect Pratt
of Indian t, should not be confounded
with President Pratt, of Boston, the
great American traveler. The Indi
ana J*ratt is greater even than tbe
great; he is longer than Long John
Wentworth, of Illinois ; he is strong
erthan Lieutenant Governor Dunn,
of Louisiana ; be is 6 feet 4 inches
high, weighs upward of 300 pounds,
and liis voice is the voice of many
waters, wherein ho is ahead of Yates
and Chandler, whose voices are tho
voices of many whi-kys and waters.
It is thus that the West proposes to
provide ambsement with instruction,
bv sending a Senator who will infal
lible draw many idle contrabands to
the-Senate to see the. “biggest man
in tho country,” as Daniel saw the
show of lions, “all for nothing.”—
