Society.
. This society held its tegular
meeting on Tuesday last, President
Rlack in the chair.
The subject for consideration
was ably discussed by Maj. Picket,
Wilkinson, Burkhalter, Gnerry and
others, and it wns eloquently urged
that farmers should economize in
their expenditures nnd try to live
within their incomes.
The subject for discussion at the
next regular meeting is, “Wbat is
tlie best disposition a farmer ran
"make of bis cotton seed f" nnd D.
C. X. Burkhalter and D. T. H.
Stewart were appointed to prepare
essays on llte question.
Th n question of- making n dis
play of tlie resources of Sumter
county at llte State Fair and New
Orleans Exposition was next, con
sidered, anti it wns thought that
the importance or the subject
demanded a public meeting of all
the citizens of the county, as it
was a matter tlmt should interest
all classes. It was therefore
decided to' call a public meeting,
to bo held at the court house in
Americus on Tuesday next, tbe
liitb, at 10 a. m., at which tfmo it is
hoped that all who arc Interested
in seeing it proper representation

Georgia will be ptesent. Tbo in
vitation is not restricted to citizens
of Sumler county, but tho people
of surrounding counties are earn
