vailed during the war. Mr. J. W.
Furlow has shown us some very
odd bills which his father had to
pay during those troublesome
times. In looking over some old
papers the other night he found
cords of them, and as they are odd
to the rising generation, we publish

Mr. 1. II. Cheek who lives 011 the
Barnes trail near • Providence
church, had his d welling house and
kitchen destroyed by fire Wednes
day. The fire caught from a stove
pipe, and the house, which was a
wooden framed structure, was soon
consumed. Nearly all the furni
ture was saved b/ hard work, a few
clothes being burned. The loss is
estimated at about two hundred
dollars. Mr. Cheek is an honest,
hard working man and the loss fulls
quite heavy on him, espcciall; as it
comes at a season when farmers are
most busy getting their crops un
der way.
