Next to the church Itself, the Sunday
School I. the most potent factor for the
upbuilding of g<K>d morals and the re-
ligion o f Christ, and The Timks-Kk-
coiideu has no apology to make for the
apace which It devotes to-day to the
publication which has for its object the
organization and improvement of Surf
day Schools, and the promotion of the
cause of the Redeemer.
The Friendship Baptist Association,
of which the Americus church is a com
ponent part, determined at its last ses
sion to give its Sunday School work a
separate organization.
The Sunday School executive commit
tee, at the invitation of this church, will
hold the first convention in our city,
at such time as the committee may se
lect The attendance now premises to
be a large one, and the messengers from
every chureh and Sunday School will re
ceive a hearty welcome not only from
our Baptist friends, but from the com
munity at largo.
The happiest results will surely flow
from the coming together of these Sun
day School workers, who without the
hope of reward on this earth are willing
to give up their time and their substance
for the uplifting of others.
Below will be found the constitution
adopted:
1. This organization shall be known
as the Sunday School Convention of the
Friendship Association.
2. Its object shall be to organize, and
improve Sunday sobools and to promote
the cause of the Redeemer.
3. It shall be composed of messengers
from the churches or Sunday schools of
the association all of whom shall be
orderly members of the Baptist church.
4. Each church or Sunday school shall
bo entitled to four messengers, male or
fomale, who will be expected to bear
letters certifying to their appointment,
and containing File statistics of their
schools. All ordained ministers in the
association shall be ex-officio members
of the convention.
5. Its officers shall consist of a presi
dent, at least two vice-presidents for
each district of the association and
secretary and treasurer, who shall per
form tho duties usual to such offices and
such others as may bo assigned them,
and shall be elected annually.
6. There shall be an executive com
mittee consisting of four members, of
whom the president shall bo ex-offioio
chairman, whose duty it shall be to make
all necessary arrangements for the meet
ings of the convention, gather statistics,
collect funds, and attend to all matters
likely to promote the interests of the
convention and shall meot quarterly or
oftener if necessary. They shall have
power to designate the chinches and
neighborhoods in which tho vice-presl
dents shall labor, and fill any vacancy
that may occur in their own number or
among the officers of the convention.
7. The president shall prepare and
present to each session of the Friendship
Association, a short report of the work
of the convention, together with a table
of statistics of all the Sunday schools in
the association.
8. The vice-president shall have charge
of the work in the field of labor assigned
to them by the exeoutlve committee,
and will be expected to vlilt the church-
ea, organize Sunday Schools, and In all
practicable waya further the cause
they may have opportunity and report
quarterly to the executive committee.
9. The secretary shall keep a record
of the proceedings of the convention,
conduct all necessary correspondence
under the direction of the president, and
will be expeeted to attend the meetings
of the exeoutlve committee.
10. The convention shall meet at
least once a year at aueh time and place
as may be selected by Itself or by the
executive committee.
District conventions may bo called at
any time and place deemed proper by
the executive committee.
11. The meetings of the convention
shall bo governed by the usual rules reg
ulating deliberative lwdies.
12. This constitution may ho altered
or amended by a tjyo-thirds vote at tny
regular meeting of the convention.
