Hydro-Electric Current Now Fur
nished From Albany Dam
Via Americus Station
Current has been cut in over the
line from Flint river to Cordele, via
Americus, with the steam plant here
reserved as the chief auxiliary sta
tion between Albany and Cordele.
Announcement to this effect was au
thorized here today by R. P. Ewing,
manager for the South Georgia Pub
lic Utilities Company, which owns
the transmission lines between Al
bany and this entire section of Geor
gia.
The line from Americus to Cor
del« passes through both Leslie and
DeSoto, and it is stated that both
these communities will be served
with current at an early date. Hunt
ington, the only other community of
any importance along the route of
the line, will not be furnished at this
time, though it is planned to furnish
current for consumption there as
soon as certain details can be
worked out'by company officials.
These include the construction of an
auxiliary line between some point
on the present line and Huntington
community.
The current being furnished Cor
dele is delivered on the switchboard
there at 44,000 volts and “stepped
down” to 2,300 volts for delivery lo
cally, this being further reduced to
110 volts when the current takes the
consuming line. The current will be
distributed at Cordele by the South
Georgia Power Company, this being
the company owning the steam fran
chises there, and which it is Under
stood is controlled by the South
Georgia Utilities Company, which
owns the transmission line. The
rates to be charged at Cordele, it is
stated, are practically the same as
those at present exacted here, with
a slight added charge due to the ex
tended length of the transmission
lines.
