PAGE TWO MKMWWI OFMTBmTI Oercet Service Operatives Fur- nish Description of Spurious Notes Being Circulated A I'LANTA, Oct. 18. Georgia fianks have received notice from the secret Service departmen oi the United Statts treasury that three new and dangerous counter flit notes have been detected in They are’of the <>o, and $lO denominations. The SSO note is cn the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and is de scribed as having “check letter C, face plate 11, Carter Glass, ccre tary of the treasury, John Burke Treasurer portrait of Grant."’ ap parently printed from photo-nn chanical plates on two plates on two pieces of paper —a "thin and thick piece between which silk threads have been distributed.” There is said to be glaring defect in the portrait of Grant shown in a,..white: spot tn the left eyebrow, and the gray patches in his beard are too pronounced. The number of this specimtn to hand is G-143- 11.53!)A, jt is stated. 1 Here has also been detected a specimen on the above described bill' irtenticai workmanship except Chat the check lettrs has been ehang ed from C to A, and the serial num ber on the specimen is G1441133A. The white spot in the left eyebrow in the portrait of Grant, above re tgrrpd to, has been worked over anil, is not so noticeable. or.tinning the description says:: The S2O Federal Reserve note on the bank of Chicago, check letter A, face plate 207. Back plate t>lß D. F. Houston, secretary of the Treasury, John Burke, Treasurer of the United States, portrait of the GMiveiaud. This note appears to bt photographic production on two pieces,,pi .paper, between which s.djj,, threads have been distributed, and tfie counterfeit is poorly print ed. Much ot the lathe-work on the face appears in solid color instead of fine'■lines. The seal is poor and the..number ..differs on different speciments to hand. It is also noted (has sbme of these notes instead of bßing 'photographic productions are more of a lightphaphic-<vorkman s'lnp, and on the apparent Litho graphic work notes, the cheek letter is shown as B, the face platt as l’f<Bj"‘instead of check Letter A Face plate 207, a son the photo graphic production. Both check let ters. A .and B bear different let— ter.s preceding the serial numbers. Sp far, we have found these, bills to bear letters K, M, N. R and G. ’ fen dollar federal reserve ote on the bank of Boston, check letter A. 'face plate 236, back plate not clearly distinguishable, but the last two figures are “02’ series of 1914, A;.,,W... Wellons, secretary of the treasury, Frank White, treasurer of thebliaited States, portrait of Jack son. This appears to be a photo mechanical production, probably printed from Zinc plates, on two piepes pt paper, with coarse fiber between. The workmanship is so crude that it should be readily de tected. The specimen to hand bears serial number A38567540A.” .
