Macon Tomorrow
MACON, Jan. 28.—Members of
the executive board of the Georgia
division of the United Daughters of
the Confederacy will gather here
Tuesday for the annual mid-winter
business meeting at which matters
of state wide interest will be acted
upon. Mrs. Walter Grace, president
of the Georgia division, will be in
charge and will entertain the mem
bers of the board at a luncheon.
Members, of the Macon chapter will
act as reception Committee.
Increase of membership of the va
rious chapters, plaqs for carrying
I on the work of the Mildred Lewis
Rutherford Historian’s fund; the
annual state essay contest for
school children which will have as
its subject this year, “Stone Moun
tain, its message and its memories”
completion of Georgia’s pledge of
SI,OOO the fund for the Jefferson
Davis Monument at Fairview, Ky.,
and of thy fund for the Georgia
room in the Confederate museum at
Richmond; measures for the care of
veterans at the Confederate soldiers’
home in Atlanta, and maintenance
of the relief fund for needy Confed
erate women, are among the mat
ters which will come before the
board. ,
The Georgia division led in in
crease of membership in 1923 and
the present administration will
seek to hold this record. T o stim
ulate interest, four membership
trophies are offered, the Margaret
Carter Hunt Cup to the chapter
obtaining the largest number of
new merrtbers, the Haines banner to
the chapter obtaining the largest
number of new members on a per
capita basis, the John A. Perdue cup
to the chapter effecting the largest
increase in chapters of Children of
the Confederacy, and the Alice
Baxter cup to the chaptre obtain
ing the largest number of new
members between the ages of 18
and 25 years.

W. R. Jackson, Jr., who returned
from a visit to his grandparents in
Cordele Friday, is confined to his
home on Jackson street with an at
tack of measles.
Mrs. T. E. Snellgrove, of Cordele,
is spending the week with her daugh
ter, Mrs. W. R. Jackson, at her home
on Jackson street.
The East Church and Prince street
sewing circle will meet Wednesday
afternoon at 3 o’clock with Mrs. J.
B. Hudson at her home on East
Church street. ,
Mrs, B. B. Kent, of Vicksburg,
Miss., is spending some time with
relatives and friends in Americus.
Miss Rebecca Cowles, who has
been ill at her home on Church
street, is reported considerably im
proved.
Miss Lucile McAnally, who has
been a resident of Americus for
. some time past, left Sunday fbr
Atlanta, where she has accepted a
position with the Hastings Seed Co.,
