INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 29.—(8y
Associated Press.) The Ku Klux
Klan issue in this state will have a
bearing on the contests for state
officers at the primary MayT, with
certain gubernatorial candidates on
j both the Republican and Denio
' cratic tickets coming out openly ;is
opposed to the Klan; others keep
ing a significant silence on the is
sue, and wit hat least one candi
date generally known to have the
whole hearted support of the fol
lowers of the fiery cross.
In addition to this issue reduc
tion of taxes, the bonus, elimination
of unnecessary state offices, relief
for the farmers, more local self
government and a general policy of
economy are urgefi in the various
platforms.
At the present time, with five
Democrats and five Republicans
having announced their candidacy
for governor, and two others re
ported to be preparing to enter the
contest, the presidential primary
between President Coolidge and
United States Senator Hiram John
son is creating little interest. The
Democrats will have no presidentia.
candidates on their tickets, it is
stated.
Democratic candidates who have
announced for governor are Dr.
Carleton B. McCulloch of Indiana
polis, Joseph M. Cravens of Madi
son, Dale J. Crittenberger of An
derson, Charles S. Batt of Terre
Haute, and George R. Durgan of
Lafayette. Henry A. Barnhart of
Rochester is expected to announce
his candidacy within a short time.
Durgan is the only Democratic
candidate for the executive posi
tion who has come out with a state
ment that he is opposed to the Ku
Klux Klan.
The men who have announced
themselves as candidates for the
Republican nomination for gover
nor are Edward C. Toner of Ander
son, Edgar Bush of Salem, Mayor
( Lew Shank of Indianapolis, Mayor
Ora .Davis of Terre Haute, ana
Edward Jackson, present secretary
of state. Davis announces he will
oppose the Klan.
A large number of Republican
party leaders will be found sup
k .porting President Coolidge in his
F campaign in this state. John Moor
man, northern Indiana Republican
leader, will be back of Hiram John
son.
Five lleniocrats who are serv
ing in congress at Washington have
re-entered the fight to retain their
] laces.
Seven Republican congressmen
have announced their candidacy for
i e-nomination.
A feature of the primary this
year will be the entry of Miss
Julia Landers, Indianapolis, as a
candidate for the Democratic nomi
nation for congress from the Seven
th District. She is the first woman
in Indiana to be a candidate for
such an office, and the only wo
man to announce to date .as a can
didate for any office.
The Republican state convention
will be held at Indianapolis May 21
and 22, and the Democratic state
convention in the same city June
4 and 5.

HAD CLOSE SHAVE
“My wife and children thought I
was dying when, after an attack of
acute pain s in my stomach, I be
came unconscious. It was right
after Sunday dinner. They say I
looked like dead and guess I had
a pretty close shave. I had been
having more or less stomach trou
ble and bloating with gas for past
two years and could get no perma
nent help. Talking with a friend
about my attack, he advised me to
try Mayr’s Wonderful Remedy. I
have not had any gas or stomach
trouble since taking it eighteen
months r,go.” It is a simple, harm
less preparation that removes the
catarrhal mucus from the intestinal
tract and allays the inflammation
which causes practically all stom
ach, liver and intestinal ailments,
including appendicitis. One dose
