Minor, president of the associa tion, was not in the city today, but the assignments were completed je rore ,his departure, and their .an nouncement authorized. Under the schedule as adopted, every preacher in Americus will preach to the congregation of some other minister, with subject to be chosen by each. Baptist will preacn ill Methodist pulpits, Methodists in Baptist churches, Presbyterian be fore the Christian congregation, apd the Christian pastor before a Presbyterian gathering. The as signment of ministers for these ser vices wil be as follows: Dr. Carl W. Minor, at Lee street Methodist church; Rev. Luther Har rell at First Baptist church; Riv. John M. Outler at Central Baptist church; Rev. Milo H. Massey at First Methodist church (court house); Rev. Richard F. Simpson, at First Christian church, and Ro-. W. A. Joyner at First Presbyterian church. rhe pastors who will exchange pulpits Sunday night have joined in asking their congregations to at tend service on that occasion in their accustomed churches, the idea being to have the people hear dif ferent preachers. L. Ridley, health officer, announced yesterday afternoon that Macon ne groes are taking an interest in the national Negro Health Week to be observed throughout the country from March 30 through April 5. The same campaign was put on here last year to teach the negroes in health work and as a general clean-up week. The movement was started by Tuskegee Institute, and has the endorsement of the United States Public Health Service. Preachers, doctors and club lead ers among the negroes are taking an interest in the movement. Dr. Ridley stated that the tenta tive program calls for sermons and lectures on Sunday, the first day of the campaign. Monday, the second day will be Hygiene Tuesday Fly, Mosquito and InsecE- Day, teaching negroes how- to rid the community of these pests; Wednes day Tuberculosis Day; Thursday. Children’s Health Day; Friday, Church Sanitation; and Saturday, General Clean-up Day. CREAMERY EQUIPMENT WILL BE ORDERED SOON VALDOSTA, March 7.—-The or der for the complete equipment of the Valdosta Creamery is now be ing rapidly prepared and it will be placed with the dealers within the next few days. The installa tion will be made in the shortest possible space of time. As soon as the plant is ready for operation Messrs. Fenn & Larsen, of Cor dele will take charge under their lease and begin operations. The creamery operated in Cordele by this concern it is said, is paying to this section an average of thirty thousand dollars per month in cash now for cream. There is so much weather it all can’t be good. OR. IR. STURM DIED HERE TODAY Well Known Physician and Prominent Mason Succumbs To Pneumonia Friday Dr. John Richmond Statham, one of the best known physicians of Americus, died at his home on Church and Prince streets here this morning, following a brief illness of pneumonia. He was fifty-five years of age, and had been active during many years as a member of the Masonic fraternity, aS well as other secret orders here. Re cently he had been in declining health, but only within the past ten days his illness had reached a critical stage, and announcement of his death will come as a shock to many friends here and through out the county. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock, from the First Baptist church, conducted by Dr. Carl W. Minor. Dr. Statham, who was born and reared in Sumter county, had re sided for the past 26 years in Americus, where he was widely known ninversdSiy beloved for many splendid traits of character. Re was a member of the First ■ Baptist church, and lived the ten- I ets of his church and the principles 1 of Masonry in his daily life, which wag one of marked charity and helpfulness. A member of M. B- Council Lodge No. 95, F. and A. M., he had served many years in the various offices of the order, having been past master previous to his death. Surviving are two sons, Rich mond Statham and Fred Statham, his father, John Statham, and his stepmother, Mrs. Statham, of Amer icus, and one brother, Dr. O. W. Statham, of Leesburg, all of whom were with him at the end. Interment will b e in Oak Grove cemetery by the side of his wife who preceded him ten years ago. The Masons of Americus and sur rounding vicinity will have charge of the solemn rites at the grave. He has asked for a hearing among former home folks and doubtless a large number will greet him in his address. He is winning distinction as an editorial writer on the Telegraph. PROF. ROSS HEADS NEW CORDELE BAND CORDELE, March 7.—The Cor dele band has just been reorganiz ed and quite a number of new re cruits were enrolled as members. W. H. Ross was elected instruc tor and the election of a president, or general manager was deferred until later. Mr. Ross has been instructor of the Americus band and that has been considered one cf the best bands in this territory. Another meeting will be held as soon as two committees are ready to report on negotiations pending.
