So many inquiries have been
made as to how our community
Cut Off received its nabe below:
are a few words of explanation, con
cerning her rnme
Macon and Sumter counties were
originally Lee County, the line,
somewhere about the “old camp
ground,” north of Oglethorpe—
North of the old camp groud was
Muscogee county, and Macon
county was a county as far back
as 1853, when the first railroad
came to Oglethorpe..
We were cut off from Sumter
county about the year 1870 It came
about something like this: Two of
our pioneer settlers, Jim M Wicker
and Woodson Tolen were juror in
Americus and their best means of
conveyance was on foot (walking)
it being a 14 mile walk to Ameri
cus for these jurors, so through
them the Legislature gave the “Cut
Off” formerly Sumter county land,
to Macon county, the division to be
two creeks, “Camp” and Sweet wa
ter” creeks.
Camp creek was the line between
Sumter and Macon counties After
Sumter county gave us to Macon
county, sweet water creek became
the dividing line. ,
There is a myth concerning
“Sweet Water” creek. During the
war of 1851 and 1865 an old pio
neer settler was expecting Sherman
to march through this section of
Georgia and make his terrible raids
as he had m other places, so this
old settler was fixing to store his
provisions when his oxen run away
ard spilled his syrup in the creek,
hence “Sweet Water” Creek’”—
Rev. George G Smith, a Methodist
minister wrote one of the most com
plete histories of Georgia and
Diseases traced io constipation are many
—get permanent relief with Kellogg’s Bran
Why does constipation breed other
diseases? Because it floods your sys
tem with dangerous poisons. And the
longer you suffer, the more poisons
accumulate. That is why constipation
‘should be relieved at once.
Doctors recommend Kellogg’s Bran,
cooked and krumbled. They know it
brings results because it. is ALL bran.
And only ALL bran can be 100 per
cent effective in reHiwjug constipation.
ALL bran KJjfcgg ’s sweeps,
cleans and purifies the intestine. It
acts as nature acts. Tt makes the in

larly. If eaten regularly, it will bring
permanent relief in the most .chronic
cases of constipation—is guaranteed

ML LINE DECISION
AFFECmiL ROADS
General Contingent Fund, Un
der ‘Recapture’ Clause ( Will
Be Employed for Aid of All
■ —•
ATLANTA, April 3.—Railroad
men, and those who have their
money invested in railroads, it was
stated in railroad circles here today
point to the recent decision of the i
Supreme Court of the United
States sustaining the constitutional-'
ity of the so-called “recapture” I
clause of the transportation act Rs I
marking an epoch in the determin
ation. of the policy of governmental
regulation of the railroads of the
country. It was further stated
that every case so far carried to the
Supreme Court, as to the constitu
tionality of the act, has been up
held.
This section of the act provides
that if the net earnings of any in
dividual railroad, under a general
level of rates established by the In
terstate Commerce Commission to
yield “as near as may be” a fail
return on railroad property in the
aggregate—the definite percentage
of return being determined by the
commission in advat >ce —amounting
to more than 6 per cent on its prop
erty valuation, one half of the ex
cess over 6 per cent, should be paid
back to the government to establish
a fund to be used ir. the interest
of transportation as a whole.
The “recapture” provisions were
the corollary to the rate making
provisions of the act, for rates ad
justed to enable the lines in light
traffic territories to survive would
necessarily produce excessive earn
ings to the smaller number of car
riers in heavy traffic districts.
To meet this problem of carriers
differently situated operating un
der the same general level of rates,
Congress in the act provided for the
division of of the excess earnings
of individual roads resulting from
a rate level fixed to adequately
sustain th country’s transportation
system as a whole.
The general railroad contingent
fund under the decision is not to be
used for the benefit of the weaker
carriers, it is stated. On the con
trary, it is shown that the fund it
to be employed for the .aid ot all
roads alike—--both th 3 strong and
th- weak.
The longest jump on record is re
ported in Chicago. A man jumped

ITCHING ECZEMA
DRIED RIGHT UP
BY THIS SULPHUR
Any breaking out of the skin, even
fiery, itching eczema, can be quickly
overcome by applying a little Mentho-
Sulphur, says a noted skin specialist.
Because of its gernt destroying proper
ties, this sulphur preparation instantly
brings cas.e from skin irritation, soothes
and heals the eczema right up and
leaves the skin clear and smooth.
It seldom fails to relieve the torment
and disfigurement. Sufferers from skin
trouble should get a little jar of Rowles
Mentho-Sulphur from any good drug
gist and use it like a cold cream.

COLON POISONING
BRINGS OLD AGE
Destroys Health and Causes Pre- ;
mature Degeneration of all Vital
Organs
You are a wise man or woman if
you understand your colon and keep
it in perfect working order. Health,
happiness, vigor and long life are
the gifts which an active colon gives
you—and a lazy colon takes away.
Your colon is the last five feet of
your digestive canal. It is your sew
erage system; your garbage can, so
to speak. Keep it clean and you are
well and happy; let it stagnate and
it will distill the poisons of decay,
fermentation (gas) and putrefac
tion into your blood, noisoning your
brain and nerves so that you are
restless, irritable and blue; poison
ing your heart so that you are
weak, listless and lazy; poisoning
your lungs so that your breath is
heavy or foul; poisoning your stom
ach and digestive organs so that
you are bloated, belching and un
comfortable with gas pains; poison
ing your blood so that your skin
looks yellow, sallow and unhealthy;
poisoning every part and organ of
your body, through your blood,
making you look and feel old and
ugly long before your time; making
your joints and your back stiff and
rheumatic; your eyes dull and your
brain sluggish.
By the perfect law of Nature,
.your colon should empty itself three
times a day—within ,-n hour after
eating. Does your colon work that
well? If not, it has lost its tone.
What do we mean by tone? Your
colon is a hollow muscle. Its walls
are made up of long muscle fibres
