WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, MAY 7, 1924 DISTMCHH MEET ATELLMILLE C. H. Torbett, of Columbus, Chosen President of Associa tion; C. C. Wall, Secretary ELLAVILLE, May 7.—Ellaville lodge No. 208, Knights of Phythjjg was host to a large delegation of visitors from Columbus, Talbotton. Buena Vista, Americus and Albany on the occasion of their semi-an nual meeting here Tuesday. The meeting was called to order at the Castle Hail at 3 o’clock with Chas. C. Wall as chairman. Th? first number on the program was the opening Ode sung by all knights present. Invocation wan offered by Rev. W. H. Speer, of Columbus. A. A. Arringtong wel corned the guests on behalf of the city and Col E. J. Hart welcomed them on behalf of Ellaville lodge. No. 208. The response to the ad dresses of welcome was delivered by John C. Butt, of Buena Vista. In the absence of A. J. Burdett, who was president of the District organization, and on acocunt of the unavoidable delay of vice-presi dent, 0. H. Toifoett, of Colum bus the business session of the Convention was presided over by Past president John C. Butt of Bu ena Vista. During the business session re ports from the various lodges of the district were made and all show ed that the order at this tme wa> enjoyng an era of prosperity and in most cases all reported substantial increases in their membership. Judge John H. Lewis of Colum bus who is Grand Prelate adressed the delegates and visitors at the af ternoon session with a strong and inspiring address on “Improvement and how to attain it.” At this session of the Convention the matter was taken and discussed as to the advisability of having semi-annual sessions of the District, organization which was favorably acted upon. C. H. Torbett, of Columbus was elected president of the Association , and Chas. C. Wall of Ellaville, was elected vice-president, with 0. A. Slayton of Columbus Secretary and treasurer. Columbus was selected as the next meeting place of the Associa tion, the sessions t 0 be held some time during this fall. Grand Chancellor, Harry C. Rob ert was late in arriving and he ad dressed the delegates and visitors at the night session of the meeting. At 7 o’clock the members of Ella ville lodge No. 208 assisted by the good ladies of Ellaville and vicinity served a barbecue supper to the visitors which was declared by all who partook to be unsurpassed. The joint team from the two Co lumbus lodges conferred the third degree upon a class of Esquire., composed of B. C. Cheek, H. R. Lane, C. L. Pilcher, S. J Ethridge, H. L. Hite and Alton N. Baugh.
