THE banks of Americus are backing this campaign to control the weevil in Sumter’s cotton fields. We are putting our money into this effort to put money into your pockets. ' ■■■'•■■ ' •*'-*> -■■'■ -’ —-i' The stakes in this effort are the biggest ever offered farmers anywhere. There are three million dollars involv ed; our farmers can either lose or gain this huge sum within the next forty-five days. Farmers who follow the Approved Poisoning plans to,the letter: the men who put poisoning their cotton plants ahead of every other activity, and who cultivate their cotton along approved lines are going to gather their own cotton, l i ■ -\ i Those who fail to “poison the weevil’s plate;” those who wait till their fields are already infested with weevils, are going to let the weevil gather their staple—thev are going to work all the year to feed the weevil during the summer, h We have faith in this method of boll weevil control; we are behind this effort to increase the value of this coun ty’s cotton crop; we believe the Three Million Dollars’ worth of cotton the weevil destroyed last year is heeded to make our whole community prosperous. i This huge sum can be saved to the farmers and business men easily and certainly through concerted and correct application of Approved Plans of weevil control. This plan is set forth in the Cotton A-B-C which appears on this page. Get together on this campaign; this Three Million Dollars is almost within the grasp of the farmers, but the weevil is reaching out after it —we can beat the weevil to this huge prize. Let’s do it. irm Bank of Commerce Empire Bank of Americus The Planters Bank of Americus ' THE AMERICUS TIMES-RECORDER ” How and When to Poison the Weevil , Hpre’s the plan advocated by Dr. R. J. H. DeLoach, J. C. Maness and George 0. Mar shall. Follow this plan, they say, and you'll make a normal crop: 1— Poison immediately before the first squares form, or as a few tiny forms appear. 2 Poison again five days after the first poisoning. ’ £ '§B 3 Poison again five days after the second poisoning. 4 Pick up squares after second poisoning ahead of cultivation, and pick up squares a second time immediately before first blooms appear, ahead of cultivation. 5 In the early fall destroy cotton stalks. Any method for destroying is satis factory except burning. J. A. HIXON, Chairman Weevil Committee. GEORGE O. MARSHALL, County Agent. Compliments The Americus Times-Recorder PAGE THREE
