PAGE SIX NEW JERSEY GIRL I SEEKS HEART BO • „ Miss Bauer Institutes Suit For SIOO,OOO Against Walter James, Wealthy Suitor JERSEY CITY, N. J., May 21. "Miss Emette W. Bauer of Ne« Rochelle, N. Y., has instituted a suit for SIOO,OOO damages in the Hudson County Circuit Court, Jer sey City, for alleged breach of promise on the part of Walter James, 70 years old, living at the Hotel Fairmont, Jersey City, an i said to be worth $300,000. Miss Bauer was living with her sister at 86 Center street, New Ro chelle when she met James there on September 1, 1923. At that time Miss Bauer was engaged to marry a young man of moderate circum stances. 'She loved the young man, I her papers state, but gave him up 1 within a month after meeting the richer but older suitor. Plans were made for the wed ding to take place the last day of December, announcements were mailed and ail arrangements com pleted, according to the young wo man, but bn Christmas Eve Mr. James mysteriously disappeared. Then, Miss Bauer says, she heard that her elderly admirer had a wife and family. She finally located him in Brooklyn, she says, and he admit ted there were bonds which prevent ed his immediate marriage, but that after he was divorced, an action Mrs. James had consented to, Miiw Bauer asserts, they would be mar- i tied. But by this time Miss Bauer’s heart had been broken and her faith shattered. She hired lawyers, anc ordered a suit brought in the Hud ’ •son county courts because Mr. James had .poved to Jersey City. A few days ago Supreme Court Commissioner Charles E. Hendrick son in Jersey. City, signed a writ of attachment against James’ property to the extent of $25,000. Up to the present no answer has been filed by James. DR. BOWMAN TO BE COLLEGE SPEAKER ATLANTA, Ga., May 21.—Dr. John G. The tally-sheet of the advance count, up at Democratic national headquarters, certainly does look discouraging for the Republicans! Out of 48 states, the Democratic dope-sheet for the coming election concedes the party of Lincoln and Garfield and Roosevelt just 10., That many, with a total of’just 96 electoral votes, is admittedly for | the G. O. P. Os the remaining 38 states ano 435 electoral votes, 23 states with 249 votes are confidently set down . as saftely Democratic. Fifteen states having 186 votes are put into the "doubtful” column. These are the states where the battle royal will be waged to insure the additional 17 votes needed —on the face o f this advance computa tion—and to pile up. a safely sub stantial majority.
