THURSDAY AFTERNOON!JUNE 19 1 arM ILLINOIS LUTHERANS DIMMED OK IK DE KALB, June 19.—After a session marked by one of the most intense debate in its history, Luth eran Augustana synod, meeting here was still deadlocked on the war fare issue. For two hours the con vention was torn by controversy over resolutions submitted by the special committee, and after the re port of the committee had been adopted by a large majority the synod again reversed itself and or dered the resolutions committee a second time. The resolutions submitted to the convention asserted that “the great world conflict, after an expendi ture of life and wealth unequalled in human history, settled nothing and proved the slogan of war to end war a stupendous falsehood.” It continued by declaring that “inasmuch as huge armaments and military preparations on a scale hitherto unknown did not stay the bands of the war lords of the world, but rather hastened the disastrous conflict, the propaganda for bur densome military establishments is manifestly false.” , The resolutions also charged that “the overwhelming evidence before the eyes of the world today proves that war makes a few men in each nation enormously rich, while it tlirusts untold millions into utter wretchedness.” and that “modern warfare is a game played for en larged dominion and commercial advantage, and that there is m such thing as a single war for hu manity.” It was predicted that resolu tions, with a slight change, would be passed by overwhelming major ity when they again come before the convention. , TesueT Rev. Drink Water If Back or Kidneys Hurt Begirt Taking Salts if You Feel Backachy or Have Bladder Weakness Too much rich food forms acids which excite and overwork the kidneys in their efforts to filter it from the system. Flush the kidneys occasionally to re lieve them like you relieve the bowels, removing acids, waste and poison, else you may feel a dull misery in the kid ney region, sharp pains in the back or sick headache, dizziness, the stomach sours, tongue is coated, and when the weather is bad you have rheumatic twinges. The urine is cloudy, full of sediment, the channels often get irri tated, obliging one to get up two or three times during the night. To help neutralize these irritating acids and flush off the body’s urinous waste, begin drinking water. Also get about four ounces of Jad Salts from any pharmacy, take a tablespoonful in a glass of water before breakfast for a few days and your kidneys may then act fine and bladder disorders disappear. This famous salts is made from the acid of grapes an.d lemon juice, com bined with lithia, and has been used for years to help clean and stimulate sluggish kidneys and stop bladder irri tation. Jad Salts is inexpensive and makes a delightful effervescent lithia water drink which millions of men and women take now and then to help pre vent serious kidney and bladder dis orders. By all means, drink lots of good water every day. Have your physician exam ine your kidney* it l«st twice a year. BOOTS AND HER BUDDIES- An Old Story -ByCr.n. f WK, \«> TOO GOOD I . F’ermentation follows quickly. Sometimes, there is fever, pain or vomitiqg, and nearly always a diar rhoea, which simply means that na ture is trying to clear out the poi son and gas. The old idea—a serious mistake —was to check it with blackberry or some other astringent. What is needed is a cathartic. Hurry up with the cleaning-out process. Then give a lighter diet for a while. Castor oil is good, but better still is Liv-o-Lax, which does the work thoroughly, and the children like to take it. You can get a good-sized bottle at the drug store for 30c.
