aB.XTVRDAY AFTERNOON. AUGUST H 1*24 !(»» SCHEDULE MK CONSIDERED hambsr of Commerce Working to Maintain Adequate Serv ice Over That Line Secretary Henry P. Everett, of e Chamber of Commerce io orking to maintain adequate scr ee on the Seaboard Air Line into mericus, despite a pending appli tion to Discontinue operation of e “Shoo Fly” trade train. Ab ady he has enlisted the co-opera m of several mayors of towns be ,-een Helena and Columbus, ami lambers of commerce located ong the line now served by the Shoo Fly.” The Public Service Commission f Georgia has advised Secre try Everett that a hearing upon e petition of the Seaboard will be dd at Atlanta beginning at 10 a. on September. At this hearing is hoped to have Americus as ell as a member of other points fected by the proposed change presented by a substantial dele tion. A compromise agreement emitting the discontinuance of e “Shoo Fly” and the re-arrange ent of existing schedules may be ached at this hearing. The Cordele Chamber of Com merce has a proposition to submit involving the discontinuance of the present through train operated between Montgomery and Savan nah. east of Richland and the con tinued operation of the Seaboard “Shoo Fly” between Columbus and Helena. This involves the in t auguration of a night tram betwee.. Savannah and Montgomery. Another plan is to have the pres ent through service discontinued al together, except with an involved / lay-over at Americus. This con templates th e operation of the lo cal trade trains into Americus each morning from both directions, the present “Shoo Fly” coming here in / the morning from Helena and re \ turning there the same afternoon, I and a similar trade train operating between Hurtsboro, Ala., and Amer icu making a round trip daily, ar riving at a convenient morning hour '/ and departing during the after- noon. A night through train be s tween Savannah ad Montgomery J might also be operated either as a J combiation train or as a fast through train carrying Pullman I sleepers and operating between Montgomery and Charlestown S. C. .1. W. Small, diviison passenger agent of the Seaboard, has advised Secretary Everett of his purpose to call a meeting of representatives Ros various points affected at an early date to consider these pro- , posed schedule changes. This muting will be held at Cordele, I and it is assured that Americus will I, be well represented at lift gather ing. Seaboard officials, Mr. Small J says, are anxious to furnish a lull } measure of passenger service, but the ‘Shoo Fly” train as at present operated represents a continuing loss with service rendered both un profitable and unsatisfactory alike to railroad and patrons. , ‘MILLIONAIRE HOBO’ WEDS ‘TRAMP WIFE’ CHICAGO, August 23.—James ‘ Eads Howe, 55, world renowned * “millionaire hobo,” is starting on a new jaunt—along the path of mar ried life. Howe has just been married to Miss Ingeborg Sorenson, 23. The . marriage ceremony was performed at the home of the bride’s parents , by Irwin St. Tucker. Howe started the world more than two decades ago when he in herited $1,000,000 by announcing he was not entited to- the money as he had not earned a penny of it and was setting out to aid the “hapless hobo.” Howe’s grand lather built several great bridges. His father was president of the Wabash railroad. Since the early nineties, Howe has been prominent in hobo cir cles as well as a regular attendant ol labor conventions. Once, when he steppede into the office of the mayor of St. Louis and offered him SIOO,OOO to help the poor, he was ordered examined by alienists. Miss Sorenson, according to Dr. Evil Roitman, president of the hobo college, is known as the hobo. The couple met at a labor meeting.
