OCTOBER 31, 1924 Socfieif ay many lovely costumes at ROTARY “LADIES NJCHT.” Elaborate decorations symbolic of the Harvest and Hallowe'en sea son, made the Americus Coif Club, scene of rare beauty and much i,diriment Thursday evening when lhe members of the Rotary- Club ontertained with “Ladies Night,” their guests including the wives and ■ weethearts of the Rotarians. The spacious reception rooms were thrown together. The decora tions were confined to Hallowe’en colors, which consisted of yellow chrysanthemums and yellow cosmos, which blended beautifully with the soft and wellow tones of the lant erns and pumpkins heads, which were festooned with orange end black crepe paper, arm bright log fires burned in the large open fire places. Many attraetve costumes were worn by the guests who ap peared in masque, Mrs. Charles La nier being awarded the prize. An elegant course dinner was served on beautifully appointed tables at seven o’clock after which, Miss Allene Mayfield, the’ witch, was introduced by Prof. J. E. Math is. Miss Mayfield entertained the guests by telling each one’s fortunes in original verse, which was the hit of the evening, also giving pre dictions for the future and the past record of the club in unique origi nal verse. During the evening Mrs. Hamilton Holt and Mrs. Dan O’Con nell delighted the guests with a number of beautiful musical .se lections, accompanied by Mrs. Em mett Anderson. President Walter P.ylander pre sided during tho dinner, when the gavel was turned over to Lucius McCleaky, chairman of the enter tainment committee. Mr. McClus ky was assisted by Peek Ry lander and John Sheffield and the follow ing Rotarians: Mrs. Lovelace Eve, Mrs. L. F. Dainty pink, lavender and white daisy chrysanthemums, artistically arranged in baskets, and yellow cos mos, marigolds and roses held in low bowls, formed a charming deco-, ration of the attractive reception rooms where the guests were re ceived. Miss Simmons wore an aftternoun model of grey chiffon velvet trim med with rhinestones, and with it she wore a becoming hat of a lovely shade of blue. Mrs. Arthur Rylander Jr. won the top-score prize, a colored glass compote, and the honoree was pre sented with a beautiful mayonnaise dish, of green Bohemian glass. Late in the afternoon, after the conclusion of the game, a delicious salad course with hot coffee was served. The hostess was ass ted in en tertaining by her mothe l , Mrs. W. D. Tao guest list included five tables of players in the morning and five in the afternoon. * * * RUTH HOWELL HOSTESS AT HALLOWE’EN PROM PARTY One of the loveliest parties of the Hallowe’en season was the Prom party at which Ruth Howell was a charming young hostess Tuesday evening at her home ' on Forrest street. Throughout the reception rooms, decorations symbolic of the Hal lowe’en season were used effective ly. Baskets and vases filled with yellow cosmos, marigolds and chry santhemums and lanterns and pump kins holding yellow tapers, gave an attractive color note to the rooms. The dining room was beautiful in detail. Dainty refreshments, were served from the dining r able which was adorned with a handsome lace cover, and crystal candlesticks hold ing yellow candles, alternating wi. h compotes of orange colored mints, attractive Hallowe’en favors mark ed the place of each guest. The guest list for this lovely party included Elphrieda Phvsioc, Eliza beth Poole, Gladys Gatewood, Elea nor Rogers, Mervin Morgan, Doro thy Bryan, Selma Geoppe. They will attend the Epworth League Institute at the First Metho dist church. Mrs. W. D. Bailey returned last night from a delightful ‘tay of ten days in Macon and For': Valley, where she was the guest of Mis. Hardeman and Mrs. Ralph Newton. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. After two months of hard work under the direction of Lrof. R. E. White, Concord school has made much progress. We have ar. en rollment of over a hunmed pupils, and all seem to be taking much in terest in their work. The school has organized a Lit erary Society, with the following officers: Robert White president, Miss Eleanor Wells secretary, and Josephine Wells vice-president. The community club and the school have cooperated and have given a program about every two weeks. Everyone gets much help and also much pleasure out of these programs. The girls have organized their basket ball team and have ordered their ball, and are looking forward to the time when they can play a match game' with some ’earn. The boys have organized their tea'm and have already played two games with Plains, and Concord, being victorious the fir-t time, and Plains the next. The boys are ex pecting to play off the tie soon. We are glad to report that Flcra DeLoach has recovered after being sick several weeks.’ We hope she will soon be back to school with us again. The school was well represented at the picture show the other night given by the Senior Class of the Agricultural School, and all who went reported a good time.
